League of Legends pro Faker is known for his in-game plays, but now he’s broadening his horizons with another venture. The mid-laner will reportedly act in an upcoming Disney+ series called ‘Murder Club.’ Here’s everything we know.

Faker is Acting in a TV Show: ‘Murder Club’

On July 14, 2026, Disney+ released a teaser trailer for its upcoming TV show ‘Murder Club.’ The series, produced in Disney’s Korea region, self-describes as “an AI mystery game show” where celebrity contestants re-enact crimes and attempt to find out which one of them is the culprit.

Fans were quick to start buzzing about who’s featuring in the production. Netizens noticed actor Shin Sung Rok, politician Kim Seon Tae, baseball star Kim Hyun Soo, TXT K-pop musician Beomgyu… and… League of Legends esports player Faker?

Yes, you heard this right, folks: Lee “Faker” Sang-Hyeok will be acting in the Disney+ series. He appears in several scenes during the trailer, inspecting a pistol and then asking another cast member for their alibi.

Faker’s Legacy

The T1 pro is a household name as one of the most famous esports players in history. He also holds the record for the most World Championships won by a single League of Legends player, with six victories under the T1 banner. The team, which Faker co-owns, is also on a three-year Worlds win streak.

Aside from his esports career, Faker is a significant cultural figure in South Korea and beyond. The mid-laner gained exemption from the country’s mandatory military service after winning the 2023 Asia Games. In 2024, Faker also became the first inductee to Riot games’ Hall of Legends, which recognizes pros who have made marks on the industry. He has appeared in brand partnerships, in memes, and even on ramen packaging.

How Does Murder Club Work?

Murder Club is a mystery variety show where celebrity guests re-enact and attempt to solve crimes (no, Pentakills don’t count… we already have VOD review time to watch those).

The show uses AI to flesh out murder mystery scenarios in various locations. For example, the teaser trailer includes Joseon dynasty castles, prisons, and baseball stadiums. The guests convene at a table and roleplay the stories, figuring out who the real culprit is along the way. They examine murder weapons, blood splatters, and more clues to draw closer to the answer.

How to Watch Murder Club

Murder Club will release on Disney+ on Wednesday, July 29. It is a Korean regional production. Esports fans should be able to find it through the streaming service’s library.

What Does This Mean for Esports?

The fact that esports pros are featuring in variety shows alongside traditional celebrities and physical athletes shows how the scene is transcending into mainstream culture. From humble LAN party beginnings, esports tournaments are now getting views on the big screen, and pro gamers are reaching pop culture relevance.

This is not the first time esports content has appeared on a Disney production. Disney XD watchers may recall that the channel frequently broadcast Overwatch matches while the OWL was still active.

At the time of Murder Club’s launch, T1 just faced elimination from the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) at the hands of G2. Community members are watching to see if the org can keep up its Worlds winstreak and take revenge at upcoming events.
