The pressure is ramping up as Worlds 2026 gets closer, and T1 just faced off with HLE in their final LCK regular season match. The two teams will now enter the Playoffs, with HLE victorious after a 2-0 sweep. Let’s recap.

HLE vs T1: The Final Group Stage Sweep

As of August 23, 2026, League of Legends team Hanwha Life Esports has swept T1 in a clean 2-0 win, locking in the second seed for the LCK Playoffs. The victory sends HLE straight into Upper Bracket Round 2, while T1 drops down to start the playoffs in Round 1 as the third seed.

HLE was in top form throughout both games, and T1‘s performance was poorer than usual. Though HLE’s drafting was stronger, it wasn’t the only reason for T1’s defeat. Star player Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-Hyeok got diffed in mid, failing to create impact throughout both matchups. He appeared particularly uncomfortable on Ryze, going 0-5 against Zeka’s Syndra.

Oner was another T1 mainstay who struggled: the jungler was consistently outplayed by HLE Kanavi, who proved to be an absolute menace in both matchups. Kanavi only died once in the entire series, scoring a major 18/1 overall K/D. He ran circles around T1’s territory, significantly gapping his opponents’ farm while also being a reliable advantage in team play.

Notably, we saw T1’s former botlaner Gumayusi meet the squad again with new support Delight. The duo seemed to work well together, and Delight’s assists came in clutch, though Peyz and Keria held their own. Peyz’ Lucian in Game 2 had some bright moments.

What Does This Mean for T1 and HLE?

This loss adds more pressure on Faker and the rest of the T1 roster, who have struggled to find their rhythm since MSI. During the event, they faced a 5th-place elimination from EMEA team G2 Esports, a far cry from the roster’s previous wins and Grand Finals placements. T1’s win rate continued dropping significantly during the regular season, and even their own Homeground event ended in a rough 0-2 series record. Esports viewers are noticing an inconsistency that wasn’t present in 2025, and T1’s fans find themselves a bit nervous while watching games that would usually be clean sweeps.

The team is undeniably one of League’s most famous, and its influence extends into the greater esports sphere. With six total World Championships under its belt, T1 holds the current record for most titles by one team. It’s also on a three-year Worlds win streak, which the lineup hopes to extend. This means a Worlds 2026 qualification via the LCK is particularly important.

What exactly is causing the issues? It’s hard to say. T1 has often had weaker drafts or poor matchups, but the individual players also aren’t in top form. Faker hasn’t been in the zone in his past few matchups. Doran also attracted attention for weaker toplane plays earlier in the season, though he has been pulling his performance up as of recent games. Peyz and Keria are standing out as some of the roster’s strongest assets: even in extremely tough games, they hold their own, but it’s not always enough to change the outcome.

Are HLE and T1 in Worlds 2026?

Though T1’s road to Worlds is now looking shakier, it isn’t closed. The team has beaten Gen.G, Dplus KIA, and other powerhouse orgs this split. It sits comfortably in the LCK Playoffs upper bracket. History also shows T1 often ‘levels up ‘locks in’ once Worlds begins, improving its consistency. Whether the phenomenon holds again this year remains to be seen, but the Playoffs will be the first real test of that theory.

Meanwhile, HLE has qualified to Worlds 2026 through ts first-place finish in MSI, becoming the first LCK team to do so. If T1 can make the climb through the LCK Playoffs, it’s likely the two will meet again on the international battlefield.

What’s Next in the LCK Season?

After T1’s match with HLE, it has progressed to the LCK 2026 Playoffs. The team will go straight to the upper bracket, though its seed is one bracket behind HLE in Round 1. It will be slightly more difficult for them to climb through the ranks.

T1 will face its first Playoffs opponent on August 29, 2026, at 4:00 EDT. HLE will follow on September 2, 2026, at the same time.
