Counter-Strike is going worldwide with a series of tournaments in new destinations. Let’s explore everything to know about the BLAST Premier Open Ulaanbatar, including its prize pool, schedule, and what it means for Counter-Strike.
On July 14, 2026, a new Counter-Strike tournament was revealed: the BLAST Premier Open Ulaanbatar. This upcoming event will be the first-ever Tier 1 tournament headquartered in Mongolia, a region that has skyrocketed to Counter-Strike success in the past few years. Esports fans may recognize The MongolZ, who placed second in the 2025 Austin Major and won the year’s Esports World Cup, and star players mzinho and Senzu.
The Premier Open will occur in Ulaanbatar, Mongolia’s capital. The city is located among mountains in the country’s Northern region. Its aesthetic mixes utilitarian residential blocks with ornate monasteries and high-tech towers. Skiing is popular in the area, so visitors can hit the slopes after watching their favorite teams hit headshots.

In an article release detailing the tournament, BLAST wrote, “This LAN competition will bring the best teams from across Counter-Strike to Mongolia for two weeks of competition.” It is part of “BLAST Premier’s ambition in 2027 to bring more of its biggest tournaments directly to fans in new cities and regions around the world.”
Teams will earn slots for the event based on VRS rankings and regional performances. 11 receive direct invitations, while seven teams arrive through regional qualifiers.
As an S-Tier event, the Premier Open Ulaanbatar has a hefty prize pool. In total, teams will compete for a 1,250,000 USD sum. 500,000 USD of this is prize money, while 750,000 USD goes to recognizing teams. Teams also earn money for simply qualifying in the Open with an Acceptance Fee model, which adds to their winnings:
The BLAST Premier Open Ulaanbatar will occur in May 2027. It will stretch from Monday, May 10 to Sunday, May 23.
Mongolia has taken the Counter-Strike world by storm after home team The MongolZ pulled off one of the strongest underdog runs in the sport’s history. The squad entered 2025 with a roster made up mostly of teenagers. In addition, resources were thin, and the team didn’t even have a sports psychologist on staff. Despite these disadvantages, The MongolZ fought their way to a second-place finish at the 2025 Austin Major, falling just short against Team Vitality in the final. They took down FaZe Clan and FURIA in the process, gaining international attention.
That result made them the first Asian Counter-Strike team ever to reach a Major Grand Final. A few months later, The MongolZ got revenge on Team Vitality and won the 2025 Esports World Cup. Here, they also knocked out Team Falcons, a roster built around superstars NiKo and m0nesy specifically to compete for that title.
Two names stood out above the rest during this run: Senzu and mzinho. Their standout performances have earned both players a move to BC Game, putting them on the roster of one of the very super-teams they once defeated. As the youngest members of their new squad, Senzu and mzinho will play with veteran talents like s1mple, who boasts a decade-long legacy. For two young players this early in their careers, this marks a major milestone.

The MongolZ has also earned international repute as a team, with the Counter-Strike community largely applauding its strategies and coaching efforts. It’s uncertain if the team will keep up its momentum without 2 of its core players, but certainly not impossible, and they’ve proved they can beat the odds before.\
BLAST specified how The MongolZ’ story arc helped influence its decision to bring Counter-Strike’s Premier Open circuit to Mongolia: “Mongolia has developed an increasingly visible place within the global Counter-Strike landscape, powered by a dedicated fanbase and a highly competitive professional scene. The passion fans show for Counter-Strike is some of the most dedicated in the world, filling arenas to watch tournaments thousands of miles away at the early hours of the morning.
By taking BLAST Premier to Ulaanbaatar for the first time, BLAST will give local supporters the chance to see the world’s best compete on home soil while showcasing Mongolia and its Counter-Strike culture to a global broadcast audience.”
In addition, BLAST is expanding into new event locations, “taking major events beyond familiar destinations and creating more opportunities for fans to experience top-level Counter-Strike live. 2027 already has Rio De Janeiro, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malta all locked in.”
