As teams restructure their rosters for the VCT 2027 season, Gen.G has just made two key acquisitions: Dambi and MaKO will transfer to the organization. Here’s a quick recap of the move.
On November 6, 2027, Gen.G announced that Lee “Dambi” Hyuk-kyu will join its main VALORANT lineup.
The pro, who is a Duelist main, is a familiar face in VCT Pacific. Dambi previously represented Nongshim RedForce, a fellow South Korean org. The team shot to the spotlight in March after securing a first-place Masters Santiago finish, with Dambi taking MVP honors. The org later participated in Champions Shanghai 2026, reaching the Playoffs and placing 7th-8th.
Gen.G wrote that the team is “excited to welcome [the] Masters Santiago MVP,” and noted his “exceptional talent, firepower, and competitive experience.”
Alongside Dambi, another VCT Pacific mainstay will also arrive to the Gen.G lineup.
Kim “MaKo” Myeong-kwan played on DRX since 2022, surpassing four years on the organization. The Controller main has participated in five VALORANT Champions tourneys, finishing third in 2022 and 2025. He has experience as an IGL, making key calls throughout matches.
MaKo’s move to Gen.G arrives after DRX released its entire VALORANT player and staff roster. As the VCT 2027 season approaches, Riot is reeevaluating long-term partnerships. DRX was not selected to continue as a partner team, causing the org to downsize.
“After evaluating the implications resulting from the changes to KIWOOM DRX’s partnership status, as well as the broader changes to the league’s system, all parties mutually agreed that parting ways is the most responsible path for everyone’s immediate interests,” DRX wrote.
Gen.G called MaKo “an established veteran of the scene” and said he is “ready to make an impact through his strategic leadership and in-game presence.”
Once they arrive, Dambi and MaKo will join Gen.G teammates Kim ‘t3xture’ Na-ra, Kim ‘RaxcaL’ Min-seok, and Kim ‘Karon’ Won-tae. Their move occurs several days after former starters Ash and Efina left the organization.
Gen.G will take part in the VCT Pacific Kickoff beginning on January 11, 2027. Until then, the org will be training to ready up.
VCT 2027 is more competitive than ever: Riot has shifted to a new Open Qualifier-based format and removed several veteran teams from the circuit. Participating orgs have to stay hungry and keep on their toes to remain in the running.
