G2 Esports just surprised fans with a blast from the past. Perkz, a familiar face from the organization’s League of Legends years, is returning as a coach. Here’s everything to know about the announcement.
Luka “Perkz” Perković is famous as one of League of Legends‘ strongest EMEA players. He is particularly known for his time with G2 Esports, during which he played in 5 World Championships, won the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), and sustained a lengthy LEC winning and placement streak. Later, Perkz left the team for Cloud9, representing NA and gaining a sizable American fanbase. He then played for Team Vitality and Team Heretics before joining UK org The Ruddy Sack briefly in 2025.
End of an arc.

After a decade-long career, Perkz officially announced his retirement from competitive play on June 5, 2025. In an accompanying video, he thanked fans and teammates while explaining that the decision would allow him to spend more time with his family and focus on other ventures.
Since the reveal, Perkz has not participated in tournaments. However, he has remained active in the esports industry. Recently, he became a co-owner of an esports cafe franchise, Friendly Fire. The business has headquarters in Perkz’ native Croatia and is “rapidly expanding,” with locations in several countries and a Riot Games partnership.

On June 3, 2026, G2 Esports announced that Perkz is returning to the organization as a positional coach. Notably, this will reunite Perkz with his former teammate Rasmus “Caps” Winther, who was on the MSI 2019 winning roster.
G2 simply captioned the announcement, “His legacy continues […] G2 Perkz returns home as our positional coach.” The post has since obtained over 100,000 views. G2 also added to the statement, calling the move “The worst-kept secret in history.”
I’m back bonus photo of me from 2015 what a disgusting name Gamers2 was

Perkz replied to confirm the news, writing, “I’m back.” He also poked fun at his former pro days with a throwback photo, referencing the organization’s former name: “bonus photo of me from 2015 […] what a disgusting name Gamers2 was.”
seeing Perkz back in G2 colors is such a nostalgia hit. never thought we’d see this again.

The move is sparking nostalgia in the League of Legends community. Perkz’ time on G2 ended nearly six years ago, and a lot has changed since then. Fearless Draft has widened Champion pools, Riot Games made and reversed the LTA rebrand within just one season, the LCP kicked off, and most main tournament formats have changed. Plus, First Stand made its debut last year.
However, some things never change. T1 is still a formidable competitor (Riot Games recently announced a Riftbound set to commemorate the org’s Worlds 2025 win). Gamers are also still reminiscing about the good ol’ days on the rift, and Riot is releasing a League Classic game mode to bring them back in time. Adding to the return to League’s past, K/DA may be making a comeback soon.
One netizen wrote, “seeing Perkz back in G2 colors is such a nostalgia hit. never thought we’d see this again.” Another user, @JupiterMorg, speculated about his impact on the org’s performance: “he played a huge role in the reverse sweep […] If someone was ever comfortable in a bad BO5 situation, it was Perkz. After all, 1-2 used to be their comfort zone.”
