HLE Qualifies for Worlds 2026

On August 15, 2026, Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) became the first team to qualify for Worlds 2026 in the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) circuit. The South Korean org accomplished this feat through its MSI 2026 win.

(Hold up, you may be saying, didn’t MSI already happen way back in June? Yes, you’re right. However, winning MSI alone does not guarantee a team a Worlds slot. They still need to make it to the Playoffs in their regional tournament.)

HLE progressed to the LCK Season 2026 Playoffs after finishing its time in Rounds 3-4. Its 16-7 positive scoreline put it in a prime position: although it didn’t go directly to the top seeds in Round 2, HLE cruised to a Round 1 start. A 2:1 win against KT Rolster kicked off HLE’s Playoffs era; Zeus and Gumayusi were popping off. Notably, Bluffing started as Support instead of Delight during the match, also impressing with many assists.

League of Legends’ official X.com account congratulated the team for its esports success, saying, “The MSI Champs are back: Congratulations to [HLE] on being the first from the #LCK to qualify for the 2026 World Championship!”

HLE also celebrated on its personal account:

“Today’s victory has officially secured Hanwha Life Esports’ spot at Worlds 2026! We’ll continue to raise our level throughout the remaining matches and do everything we can to show our very best on the Worlds stage. Thank you, as always, for your incredible support.“

What Does This Mean for the Team?

HLE is the first Korean team to qualify for Worlds 2026, but it will meet plenty of its rivals there, and the LCK is full of fierce competitors. Korea is traditionally known as League of Legends’ hardest region to succeed in, and it’s packed with international-level talent.

The next few LCK teams to qualify for Worlds 2026 will progress through its top 3 placement slots. There’s still time in the Season (it goes on until September 13), but right now, we can already identify some likely contenders.

T1 dominated in Round 1 of LCK play, and continues to remain in Group Stage top form. The team is on a 3-year Worlds win streak, with the most total titles of any organization. We all know Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-Hyeok, and his teammates Doran, Oner, Peyz, and Keria are ready to lock in. The pressure is on, though, for them to keep this steamroll up. We’ve seen some inconsistency from them in recent games, and they’re not invincible: making it to Worlds will be easy for T1, but winning it is the real test.

Gen.G is also in a prime position for Playoffs, and thus possibly Worlds. The team won the 2026 LCK Cup, and remains a formidable opponent. There’s a big possibility we could see Chovy clip farming once again on the big stage.

Dplus KIA remains another org to watch. Despite internal organizational struggles (the team caught attention after it revealed players had experienced payment delays of over 2 months due to unexpected sale issues), DK has been on top of its game in its matchups. The team is forcing international notice by defeating high-level opponents, most recently reverse sweeping T1 at their own Home Ground event.

At Worlds, HLE will meet fellow qualified orgs Bilibili Gaming (BLG) from the LPL and Secret Whales from the LCP. Stay tuned as the Season progresses and Worlds 2026 draws closer.
