Every state-licensed sportsbook leads with a new-customer promo, and the details change by state because each regulator sets its own rules on promotions. What doesn't change is the maths: bonus bets don't return the stake, deposit matches carry playthrough, and the headline number is rarely the value.

How bonus bets pay
Bonus bets are "stake not returned". A $25 bonus bet at +200 (3.00) pays $50 if it wins, not $75. Longer odds get more value from a bonus bet.
What an offer is worth
Offer
Rough value
Bet $5, get $200 in bonus bets (win or lose)
Bonus bets often worth 60–70% of face value used at plus odds
Second-chance bet up to $1,000
About 20–30% of the refunded amount, and only if your first bet loses
100% deposit match with 10x playthrough
Low; playthrough costs most of it
These are rules of thumb; the exact figure depends on the odds you use and the book's margin.
State rules
Several states restrict how promos are advertised, ban "risk-free" language, or limit promotional deductions, which is why an offer in New Jersey can differ from Ohio or Massachusetts. Each card shows the offer for your state where licensed. You must be 21 and inside the state to bet.

Getting the most from bonus bets
Because the stake isn't returned, bonus bets are worth more at plus odds. A $50 bonus bet at -200 returns $25 if it wins; at +200 it returns $100. Over many bets, using bonus bets at roughly +200 to +400 converts the most of their face value into cash. Splitting a large bonus into several smaller bets reduces the chance of losing it all on one result.

Promos and esports
Some qualifying-bet rules exclude esports, and some states don't allow esports betting at all. Read the qualifying markets before placing a CS2 or LoL bet to unlock an offer.
Promo pitfalls
Opening several accounts to claim one offer breaks every book's terms and gets winnings voided.
Bonus bets expire; unused ones disappear.
Withdrawing before playthrough cancels deposit-match bonuses.
Promos differ by state, so the offer you saw advertised may not apply where you are.

When promos get bigger
Sportsbooks raise offers around the biggest moments in the US calendar: NFL kickoff in September, the Super Bowl, March Madness and new-state launches. Esports-specific promos cluster around the CS2 Majors, Worlds and The International. If you're opening an account anyway, those windows usually carry the strongest new-customer offers and boosts.
How we value sportsbook promos
We convert each offer into expected cash value using the bonus-bet maths above, typical margins and the qualifying-bet cost, then check the terms that cut value: minimum odds, expiry, eligible markets and playthrough. Offers are re-checked weekly and per state, because the same headline can carry different terms in different states.
Responsible use of promos
Promos are designed to get you betting more. Decide your budget first and only claim offers that fit it; never deposit more to unlock a bigger bonus. Every licensed book lets you set deposit limits before you claim anything. 1-800-GAMBLER is free and confidential.

Bet and get vs second chance: which is better?
A bet-and-get offer pays bonus bets whether your qualifying bet wins or loses, and the qualifying bet is usually small. A second-chance offer pays only if your first bet loses, but can cover a much larger first bet.
Scenario

You bet $5 and win

Winnings, no bonus
You bet $5 and lose

For most new bettors, a bet-and-get offer is worth more because it pays regardless of the result.
Deposit match bonuses explained
A deposit match adds bonus funds equal to a percentage of your deposit, with playthrough. A 100% match up to $500 with 10x playthrough means $5,000 of wagering before the bonus can be withdrawn. At a 4.5% margin, the expected cost of that wagering is about $225, so the $500 bonus is worth roughly $275 if you'd bet that volume anyway, and much less if you wouldn't. That's why deposit matches have mostly given way to bonus bets.
Promo codes
Some sportsbooks require a code at sign-up, others apply offers automatically through the sign-up link. Codes are state-specific in places; a code advertised for one state may not work in another. Enter it before your first deposit, because most books can't add an offer afterwards.
Questions
What is the best sportsbook promo?
One that pays bonus bets win or lose with a low qualifying bet. FanDuel and bet365 run that type in most of their states.
Are bonus bets cash?
Bonus bet winnings are cash; the stake isn't returned.
Why is the promo different in my state?
Each state regulates promotions separately.
Do you earn money from these links?
Yes. EsportNow may earn a commission if you sign up through a link.
Do I need a promo code?
Some offers need one at sign-up; others apply automatically. The card for your state shows which.
What odds should I use bonus bets on?
Plus odds, roughly +200 to +400, convert the most of a bonus bet's value into cash over time.
Can I claim promos at more than one sportsbook?
Yes, one per sportsbook. Multiple accounts at the same book break its terms.
Is bet and get better than a second-chance offer?
For most new bettors, yes, because it pays bonus bets whether the first bet wins or loses.
Why have deposit matches become rare?
Playthrough requirements cost bettors most of their value, so books moved to simpler bonus bets.
