VALORANT’s new map, Summit, is almost here. Let’s walk through our guide of its best Agents and team comps.

Things to Look Out for on VALORANT’s New Map Summit

VALORANT’s new map, Summit, has several key characteristics that will affect how players strategize. Its sites (especially B site) are open with very little cover. However, its entry points are narrow with plenty of twists and ratty angles. There is also heavy vertical potential: we saw players wall-boost themselves as Sage, teleport on top of crates with Omen, and try out crazy pixel-perfect tech. You’ll want two things in your team comp for this map: plenty of flashes and constant space-taking potential. Let’s analyze which agents work, and which don’t.

Best Duelists: Phoenix, Neon, Iso, Raze

In the VALORANT Masters London showmatch, we saw both teams use a double-Duelist comp. This is probably because the map’s bomb sites are far more open than its twisting corridors, meaning you need different utility (and a ton of duel utility in total) to take effective map control in both areas. Teams will require a space-taking Duelist (like Raze) and an engagement Duelist (like Phoenix). Some duelists combine these functions: Neon can take space with her Dash and Wall, but she also has a stun for one-on-one fights. Ideally, your Duelists should have a strong flash and abilities that can help hard-clear corners.

Summit players will have a blast with Phoenix. Because his flashes can’t be shot, they are extremely hard to dodge, especially on the map’s very open bomb sites. They will also provide free duels with enemies in rat corners. He’ll probably be key for pushes. In addition, Phoenix’s Ultimate makes him competent in retakes.

Neon is great for multiple reasons. Her wall can split up Summit’s open bomb sites, making it MUCH easier for teammates to push and providing cover from flashes. She can quickly rotate through CT-side with her high speed. Plus, her Stun will be great for clearing rat spots and 50/50 angles.

Though we didn’t see Iso in the showmatch, he might also be a great pick. Iso’s wall could be instrumental in slicing up the site during pushes, and it will provide tons of value to teammates. His shield will make it easier to chain kills and entry successfully. Plus, his vuln is great for corner clearing, and his Ult could be super useful in Summit’s lobby corridors. You’d just have to make sure one of your teammates can flash instead.

Raze is a good pick. Less site cover means her Ultimate will be easier to hit, and her ‘nades do the job to clear corners. Yoru could have some fun with his difficult-to-dodge Flash and powerful Ulti.

Jett will probably suffer on this map, since she will easily be punished when dashing onto sites and has no effective util to clear corners (there are, however, tasty OP angles on A and B). Reyna’s flash is too weak since it can easily be shot, and her Dismiss is ineffective with less cover. Waylay might also have a tough time on entry, and it won’t be fun for her to take duels.

Best Controllers: Omen, Clove, Astra

Since Omen can frolic across the map quickly, he’s a great pick here. His smokes are large enough to cover most entry points, he has some creative one-way spots, and his Teleport can play crazy mind games by jumping onto heights. However, that’s probably not the main reason many teams are already eyeing him: Omen’s Paranoia is perfect for clearing Summit’s long hallways, and it covers more space than other flashes.

Clove could also be alright here, since she supplements aggressive pushes and corner-clearing with her vuln. Astra, similarly, has large smokes, strong post-plant, and will be okay at clearing angles.

Miks is chilling: although his stun is very weak, he still provides enough team value with his heal, smokes, and Ultimate to get by.

Though this author is formerly a Viper main, this map will unfortunately not be fun for her. It’s WAY too large to effectively solo smoke it, there are almost no good potential walls, and her orb is just too small to cut off some of the chokes. Plus, her ult will be SO easily spammable in post-plant.

Brim could be viable, especially if the community finds decent molly lineups, but he probably won’t be the best. Harbor, like Viper, will struggle with limited smoke range, poor utility, and an easy-to-dodge Ultimate.

Best Initiators: Skye, Sova, Fade, Breach

Skye will likely have fun here with even more flashes. She can constantly re-clear sections of the map while taking very little punishment. It’s always nice to have heals, and if you choose Sage as your Sentinel, they can heal each other. Plus, she gains so much info that it puts her a step above other flash initiators like Breach and KAY/O.

Sova and Fade‘s info abilities will be hard to dodge on-site. Sova drone and Fade prowler are great for info-gathering without putting yourself in the line of fire. Fade’s ult is also large enough to pose a threat on both plant sites.

Breach‘s ult could be brutal in Summit’s long lobby areas (think the dreaded early A-main Breach push on Fracture) and decent enough on retakes. He has some postplant, which is great because he can play from cover off-site instead of fighting for his life against 50 million Phoenix flashes. Tejo is also viable here, but he focuses more on info. It should be noted it will be easier to hit Tejo post-plant util from a distance. If you play one of these two agents, you should choose whatever your current team comp is missing: Breach if you have no flashes, and maybe Tejo if you already have Phoenix and need some info to supplement.

KAY/O’s knife might be easy to shoot, but if it hits, it’ll stop Defenders from countering heavy push utility. His molly is comparatively weak, but at least it helps buy time.

It’s important to note that Gekko could be very weak on this map. The sites’ open plans make it easy to dodge his molly, large choke points mean it’s tough to defend his Wingman effectively, and his flash will not be effective since it is so easy to destroy.

Best Sentinels: Sage, Deadlock, Vyse, Killjoy

Summit was made for Sage! She’s interconnected with the map in VALORANT lore, but it also plays to her strengths in real life. Sage’s wall is large enough to effectively block off its choke points, and since both sites have only one main entryway, that maintains control of a significant portion of the map. It can also boost teammates onto vertical angles. Plus, retakes will be brutal on this map with such open sites and so many flashes: Sage’s slow orbs and walls will buy crucial time.

Deadlock‘s wall might thrive for similar reasons. It’s large enough to close off wide openings. Her stun will be easy to hit, and it’ll stop powerful fast-pushes in their tracks. Plus, since people will be hard-clearing rat angles, there’s a good chance her Sonic Sensors could gain some valuable information and actually trigger.

Vyse combines the appeal of Sage and Deadlock’s wall with a very useful flash. Her large Ultimate range is awesome for retakes, and her thorns can sort of function like Sage’s slow orb, stalling pushes well.

Killjoy has some interesting turret spots, and her alarmbot will be useful. Chamber could be an alright pick in some scenarios, since he can rotate quickly, his trap can help stop split pushes from mid, and there are some nice long angles for the OP on Defender side. His TP can also boost him onto unique vertical spots, and his trap could help prevent late lurks mid. That said, it will be easy to shoot his trap on site.

Cypher might struggle, since there aren’t any locations (yet) where his tripwire can stealthily stop site pushes. In addition, his cages won’t be valuable in such open plant areas, nor will they stop easy spam kills in narrow hallways. Veto will also have a bad time, since his Ult provides little team value and his util is easy to dodge and destroy.
