VALORANT Champions Shanghai has had some unexpected tech issues during the Group Stage, and more glitches surfaced after a matchup with FUT and 100 Thieves. Now, the VCT team has released an official statement addressing the situation and offering a solution. Here’s an update.
Champions Shanghai 2026 kicked off on September 24, and the sixteen strongest VALORANT teams are almost through the Group Stage. In the tournament’s first week, players from Karmine Corp, NS RedForce, and Team Liquid reported experiencing mouse issues, which directly impacted their ability to play.
Riot Games responded to the issue originally by replacing the arena’s desks, noting that their material interfered with mouse signals. However, just a few days later, a major weapon glitch occurred live on-stream during a match between FUT and 100 Thieves. FUT xeus’ Spectre failed to fire despite mouse input, costing the team an important round since he lost a 2v1.
After the loss, FUT team members spoke out on X.com. KROSTALY and the org’s coach, Vlad, confirmed the mouse issues. However, they also claimed several other problems: sound issues had reportedly stopped them from hearing Spike plants, and the team couldn’t move their desks from a position with bad lighting glare.
The incident went viral as VALORANT netizens read FUT’s posts. With a 1 million USD grand prize on the line, players wanted to perform at their best. FUT requested a rollback for their match, also alleging VCT reps had told them rollbacks would occur. However, competitive authorities ultimately refused the request.
Riot has now released a new statement addressing the situation.
On October 1, 2026, Riot Games took to X.com with a two-page statement addressing the Champions Shanghai tech issues. The text gives the community a better idea of what’s going on behind the scenes, and clarifies how the studio is approaching the problems going forward.
First off, Riot stated:
“The experience at Champions so far has not met the standards we expect for players or fans. Repeated mouse interference issues have caused multiple tech pauses and disrupted our most important tournament of the year.“
The VCT team confirmed, “We take that very seriously. We have already taken several steps to address the issue and expect a permanent solution to be in place within the next few days.”
Riot added that they had identified a solution for the current issues: “We are asking all players to use a wired mouse.”
The statement noted, “This is not an ideal solution, but it is the best option available right now.”
VCT authorities also delivered a ruling once and for all: there will not be a match rollback between FUT and 100 Thieves.
In the text, Riot clarified that:
“After considering the available options, we have decided that the match result will stand, as other options would result in overturning a victory by a team that competed under the same conditions and was not responsible for the error.”
However, the organizers confirmed: “Following an official post-game evaluation, we concluded that a round rollback should have been allowed. We take responsibility for that error.“
“Champions represents the highest standard of VALORANT competition,” the team closed. “So far, this tournament has not met that standard.”
VALORANT Champions Shanghai will move into the Playoffs phase on October 7th, with the Grand Finals falling on October 18. Stay tuned for more esports updates.
