For three years, Chronicle and Boaster played together on FNATIC. In Champions 2026, everything has changed: Chronicle now represents Team Vitality, and Boaster is potentially moving to another org.
As Chronicle prepares to face LOUD in the Champions 2026 Grand Final, he made a post-match interview comment that netizens think references Boaster. Boaster has now responded to the shade on social media. Here’s a recap.
Team Vitality’s Chronicle is not messing around this year. It’s his third time in the VALORANT Champions Finals, and this time, he’s locking in. The flex player is a key part of the lineup’s comps, securing important frags on Neon and Chamber. When he’s not getting picks, though, he’s also been reflecting on Vitality’s gameplay.
Team Vitality will meet the Brazilian org LOUD on October 18 during the Grand Final, determining who lifts the most important VALORANT trophy of 2026. Check out our preview article here. If LOUD emerges on top, they will become the first team to win Champions twice. Meanwhile, if Vitality wins, it will be the org’s first ever VALORANT international victory.
In a recent post-match interview, Chronicle was asked about the upcoming faceoff with LOUD. His answer referenced his former team:
“Last year a member of my team trash talked a bit too much and went nuclear. Sadly, our goal didn’t happen, so we’ll stay humble now.”
Timofey “Chronicle” Khromov had played for FNATIC in 2025, departing for Vitality in November. He was a mainstay on the team for nearly three years, mainly playing smokes and occasionally flexing Sentinel.
FNATIC is a household name in VALORANT esports. Until 2026, the team had qualified for every single Champions tournament. They placed second in Champions 2025, falling to VCT Americas org NRG. FNATIC had gone into the series confident, but lost in a 3-2 matchup.
Their performance took a significant dip in the 2026 season, leaving FNATIC without a Champions Shanghai spot. This surprised fans and led to some organizational restructures. Netizens chatted, wondering what had caused the situation. As FNATIC’s IGL, much of the attention fell on Jake ‘Boaster’ Howlett.
After Chronicle’s comment, netizens were wondering who the ‘member of [his] team’ was. Most speculation says this refers to Boaster, FNATIC’s team captain during that time. Boaster had been vocal about the team’s training processes and tournament play. He is known for bantering with opponents and participating in social media trends. Much of this trash talk occurred during the Champions 2025 run.
In September, Boaster announced that he was “exploring other options” while remaining inactive on FNATIC. Originally joining in 2021, he was a core roster member for five years.
After clips of Chronicle’s statement went viral, Boaster responded on his social media: “Fair enough.” He included a picture of himself with a downcast expression.
The VALORANT esports fanbase took note of Chronicle’s statement, with mixed reactions. Some cautioned that there was more context to the interview, as it was mainly about Vitality’s mentality going into the Grand Final against LOUD. However, many community members believed it was poor sportsmanship.
One user called out Chronicle for the take, saying “This is cringe af from him because Boaster was clearly not being serious when he said that.” Another questioned why Chronicle was “disrespecting his ex teammate like that… for what??”
A particularly frustrated commenter called Chronicle “Bumicle,” and noted how he and Boaster had a close friendship in the past. “Trash talking isn’t the reason you lost, it’s because YOU didn’t show up. same thing after the Paper Rex match, when Boaster was wiping your tears cuz you couldn’t handle it anymore.”
That said, other Vitality fans understood Chronicle’s frustrations, having waited years to return to the Grand Finals stage. “You can talk whatever you want Chrone. Deserved,” said @NakkoBot.
Another perspective offered thoughts on Chronicle admitting to FNATIC’s trash talk: “The confession is the real message here honestly. Owning that the trash talk cost them the run is more respect than most teams ever show.”
@lauraberrytart sums it up: “Trash talking and losing is the classic origin story. Honestly, the universe really does settle it for you.”
The VALORANT Champions 2026 Grand Final between LOUD and Team Vitality kicks off on Sunday, October 18 2026. It begins at 3:00 AM EDT. Here’s a conversion for other time zones:
