Half-Time Voice Chat is Coming to FACEIT Season 9

After a public vote passed overwhelmingly, FACEIT is returning half-time voice chat to its Counter-Strike matches. Here’s everything to know about the move.

Half-Time Voice Chat Has Passed a FACEIT Vote

For years, half-time voice chat was a key feature in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The feature, which allowed players to chat for a brief window with enemies on the other team, resulted in some of the game’s funniest clips. However, Valve opted to remove the mechanic with the September 2023 Counter-Strike 2 rebrand, citing toxicity concerns.

Adding back half-time voice chat has frequently been one of the community’s main requests. Players generally feel the mode helps create the interactions that make the game special, also allowing for some friendly competition. That’s why in July 2026, third-party tournament system FACEIT announced a public vote to determine whether half-time chat would return to its servers.

As of July 29, the vote has passed, “with 79% of 106,647 votes in favor.” FACEIT has announced that it will bring half-time voice chat back for a trial period, allowing Counter-Strike players new and old a chance to experience the nostalgic banter.

It’s important to note that as FACEIT is a third-party platform, these changes will not apply to all Counter-Strike matches or the default Counter-Strike system. That said, FACEIT is hugely popular for competitive players and hosts a significant portion of Ranked queues. Server changes here definitely have potential to initiate a butterfly effect and influence the game as a whole.

FACEIT Ban Policy Updates

FACEIT has also amended the ban policy to allow for this new update. The tournament organizer is prioritizing genuine toxicity and hacking offenses, while making it clear that some harmless banter and trash talk is allowed. In a statement explaining the motivation behind the changes, FACEIT wrote:

“With the Season 9 policy changes, outside the zero-tolerance cases, we now weigh conduct in more context rather than against a fixed list of words. We look more at the act, the context of the match, and the player’s history, so a one-off outburst after a lost round is not treated the same as the same behaviour every round and match. The goal is to keep our heaviest enforcement on the players who genuinely ruin matches, and treat the heat of competition as part of the game.”

The move directly correlates with half-time voice chat. FACEIT actually revealed the ban changes after a fan replied to the original half-time vote post, telling them “Changes to our ban policy are currently underway; we’ll communicate them ahead of the Season 9 launch.”

When Will Half-Time Chat Return to FACEIT?

According to FACEIT’s official announcement, half-time voice chat will return at the start of Season 9. This means it will arrive at the beginning of a new competitive phase, when the servers will be extremely active. There will be plenty of interesting characters online to interact with.

As for an exact start date, the new feature will roll out on Wednesday, August 5. Its exact launch time will vary depending upon the player’s location and server region.

It’s important to note that this return will begin as a one-week test. The patch will continue until Wednesday, August 12. If it goes well, players can expect the feature to last longer, or even become permanent.
