What Are Chickens in CS2? New Update

On September 22, 2026, Valve rolled out the Rush Hour update in CS2. This was one of the biggest Counter-Strike patches yet, adding a brand-new 3v3 Rush game mode and switching up Premier map bans. However, another stealth update stole the show, and it didn’t even appear in the Patch Notes.

CS2 quietly rolled out a pet chicken system. Players can now obtain Chicken Eggs, which hatch into a chick after about a week. You can follow along with your beloved pet chicken as it grows, and you can interact with your chicken with in-game experiences. There are dozens of different color variations to collect. Here’s everything to know.

Can You Bring Chicken Pets into the Game in CS2?

Yes, once your chicken reaches a certain growth stage, you can bring it into matches with you. Early on, the pet mostly lives in your main menu. It sits next to your character while it hatches and grows. After the chicken pet reaches the Pullet life stage, you can take it into a match, and it shows up right in your lobby. This adds a fun personal touch to your account, letting other players see the chicken you’ve been raising alongside your usual loadout.

Can I Trade and Sell Chickens in CS2?

Eggs, feed, and chickens can’t be traded or sold, so getting one really comes down to luck and patience with your weekly drops.

How to Get Chicken Pets in CS2

You can get chicken pets in CS2 by hatching a Chicken Egg. To get one, you need a Prime account and a Weekly Care Package drop. The egg only shows up as one of the two reward options during your first rank up of the week. Picking the egg uses up both of that week’s reward slots, so you walk away with just the egg and nothing else.

How to Grow Pet Chickens in CS2

Congratulations! You’ve received a chicken egg in CS2 and become a proud parent. Now what?

Raising your elo may be hard, but luckily, raising a chicken is easy. CS2 chickens go through several life stages. You have to feed them with Chicken Feed so they grow. You can get Chicken Feed through your drops.

How Long Does it Take CS2 Chicken Eggs to Hatch?

When you first get a chicken egg in CS2, it’ll take some time to hatch. Usually, you’ll have to wait for about a week. During this time, make sure you’re checking in on the egg and regularly using your Chicken Feed.

When the egg hatches, you’ll get a cute lil’ Pet Chick. All CS2 chickens start out as Pet Chicks before growing up. Make sure to be nice to them: you never know if they’re a star in the making. Every chick looks the same, so you won’t know what chicken it’s becoming.

After this, the Pet Chick will naturally take some time to grow. Next, it’ll turn into a Pullet, which is basically a young chicken. You can start to see its colors here, and even take it into your match lobby.

Finally, the Pullet matures into one of three types of Pet Chicken, each with several subtypes and colors. So, to summarize:

What Happens if I Don’t Feed My Chicken Pet in CS2?

If you don’t feed your pet chicken, it’ll start to starve and eventually disappear. The game will warn you when it starts getting hungry. After a while, the chicken will run away to find a new owner. You might receive an in-game message like, “Your pet has accepted a position elsewhere. The offer included meals.”

Why Did My CS2 Chicken Die?

All Counter-Strike chickens eventually reach the end of their lifespan and die, no matter how well you take care of them. Unfortunately, this is normal and part of the chicken raising process.

That’s why the leaked HatchBook feature could potentially be important, since it helps you memorialize your chicken’s life and enjoy your time with them while it lasts.

Leaked Feature: Chicken Photo Booth and HatchBook

The Chicken Photo Booth in CS2 reportedly gives players a way to capture their pet’s growth in pictures. After hatching, your chick can visit the booth for a snapshot at each stage of its life, from newborn to fully grown hen. These photos stack up over time, creating a small keepsake gallery tied to your account.

Dataminers say you can customize each image with filters, props, and backgrounds. Then, players can supposedly save them to HatchBook. There’s also speculation that you can get outfits and hats for your chickens in the future. Some filters and hats may get unlocked through in-game achievements, such as lightning and flame filters for chickens who stay in C4 or molotov blasts.

Valve still hasn’t confirmed the feature officially, so most details floating around come from player reports and datamined files rather than actual patch notes. It’ll probably arrive in the game later.

All CS2 Chicken Types, Colors, and Drop Rates

There are three main Pet Chicken types your CS2 chick can grow into: Catalana, Silkie, and Polish. The Catalana chickens look similar to the original CS2 chickens. Silkie chickens have fluffier feathers, with big puffs on the tops of their heads. Polish chickens are slim with a trailing crown of feathers.
