Half-time voice chat could come back to FACEIT Counter-Strike soon. Here’s everything to know about the mechanic, how players can vote for it, and what it means for the game.
Counter-Strike has always had some quirky little traditions in its comms. The CS2 accent is just as real as the VALORANT accent, and for years, players from both teams could actually talk to each other during halftime. This created some of the best and funniest clips in the game’s history, and it was one of the small things that made its matchups really feel alive.
Back in the CS:GO days, once the round hit halftime or a match wrapped up entirely, voice chat would open up between the two squads. As you’d expect, the Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists had some interesting interactions. They’d rant, say GGs, or just chat about random nonsense. Yes, it could get toxic, but a lot of players reveled in the affectionate trash talk.

When Counter-Strike 2 launched, Valve opted to remove cross-team voice chat during halftime and warm-up. The community noticed almost immediately. On the Steam forums, hundreds of threads popped up begging devs to bring the feature back. Players said that matches suddenly felt quieter without that brief window to interact with the enemy team… You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.
Opening voice chat between strangers on opposing teams can obviously invite some ugly behavior if left unchecked. Still, a large chunk of the player base feels like removing it entirely threw out one of Counter-Strike’s key draws. Most of that halftime banter was harmless trash talk rather than anything genuinely inappropriate.
Some players even found server-side workarounds to bring the feature back using commands. There are settings in private lobbies that let you bring enemy voice chat back specifically for that halftime window. It’s a decent middle ground, but it still doesn’t replicate the truly random encounters and odd characters you could meet on old CS:GO.
As of July 2026, demand from the community clearly hasn’t faded. Threads requesting the inter-team voice chat’s return keep popping up regularly. For now, the halftime silence in ranked CS2 matches stands as one of those small nostalgic gaps between the old CS:GO experience and where the game currently sits.
On July 17, 2026, FACEIT stated it had heard player feedback about the issue. The system will open a vote to determine whether half-time voice chat will return to its matches.
Notably, FACEIT serves as Counter-Strike’s verified queue system. It is technically a 3rd-party matchmaking service. However, it is heavily ingrained in the game, to the point that pro players and most serious Ranked play frequently utilizes it. Returning halftime chat to FACEIT would definitely be a start towards adding it back to the whole game.

NaVi also wrote, “YES PLEASE.”
Some users are concerned about how CS2’s ban policy will interact with the change. FACEIT replied to some of these comments, writing:
“Changes to our ban policy are currently underway; we’ll communicate them ahead of the Season 9 launch.”
Players can vote to add half-time voice chat back (or to keep it removed) using the following steps:
FACEIT will officially reveal the voting results soon.
If the FACEIT vote goes through, the system will add half-time voice chat back into Counter-Strike. The update would occur during the Season 9 launch, which drops on Wednesday, August 05, 2026.
Notably, the half-time chat would first appear as a limited-time test. FACEIT would test how the community actually responds to it, and then decide whether to keep it permanently.
This is part of a trend in CS2’s recent years: the game and its surrounding industry are seeking more player involvement and feedback. For example, CS2 is heavily promoting its creator-led Workshop feature, encouraging artists to submit skin designs and cosmetics in themed contests.
