VALORANT map Sunset was slated to return to the Ranked pool today, but some issues are afoot. Riot Games has disabled the map as they work on a fix. Why is Sunset disabled, and when will it be back? Let’s explore.
On June 23, 2023, VALORANT transitioned to Patch 13.00. This update included several key changes, such as Sentinel and Initator buffs, a new map called Summit, and a fresh map rotation. This Act’s Competitive queue is removing maps Fracture and Pearl, while adding Summit and Sunset to the mix.
Sunset is set in a vibrant downtown Los Angeles neighborhood at dusk, drawing heavy inspiration from the city’s cultural roots with its warm color palette, street murals, and small business storefronts. The map features two standard sites. It’s known for mid control as a key battleground, as teams that hold the central area gain significant rotation advantages.
At around 2:00 PM EST, VALORANT players noticed that Sunset was disabled despite being slated to return. This means players cannot enter the map in Competitive queue, Deathmatch, Unrated, Customs, or any other game modes.
Shortly after Sunset was disabled, VALORANT’s official X.com account posted about the situation. The page reposted Riot Games’ VALORANT Gameplay Product Manager Armand Asdourian, who wrote:
“Sunset will be disabled to address an issue with the minimap. We’ll let you know when it’s back up!“
The minimap, which appears in the top-left corner of the VALORANT screen, is crucial for Competitive matches. It helps players keep track of what’s happening to teammates, even when they’re across the map.
Riot Games has not revealed what exactly happened to the minimap. However, it’s possible to speculate based on the feature’s core function. The most likely options are that the minimap was not displaying Agent utility correctly, was not aligned to the map’s architecture, or was not accurately representing player locations. We’ll probably have more info when the issue resolves.
According to some X.com community members, issues may relate to UI. Players report that the Sunset interactable doors aren’t appearing on the minimap, and Smokes seem to be bugged.

Riot Games has not yet released a timeline for Sunset’s return. Previous similar issues (such as Reyna and Cypher’s recent disables) have lasted anywhere from a few hours to a few days.
Since Sunset is a key part of the Act 4 map pool, it’s likely the issue will be fixed soon.
Here’s a quick refresher on what maps players can expect in VALORANT Patch 13.00. For more in-depth info, check out our summary here.
