If you’ve ever wondered if your VALORANT teammates were bots, you can now make the whole game AI just to be sure. A netizen just had ChatGPT recreate the game’s iconic Ascent map, and the results were… interesting, to say the least. Here’s a quick recap.
If you’re a frequent flyer in the VALORANT X.com community, you’ll probably recognize @valohabercisi. This individual is a well-known leaker and dataminer. They’re fairly accurate, so players get much information in advance from their page.
That aside, valohabercisi has been taking a different direction lately. Instead of just datamining the game, they’re recreating it with ChatGPT.
“I asked GPT-6 Astra to make valorant,” valohabercisi said. This is reportedly one of ChatGPT’s most advanced models. It’s designed to breach the gap between simple text queries and complex demands. Ideally, Astra could code, create programs, and even do research. (Ironically, Astra is also the name of a VALORANT Agent.)
valohabercisi shared the prompt they used: “hey gpt-6 astra, make me VALORANT in three.js […] as a map use valorants “ascent” map.”
“Make no mistakes,” they cautioned. Shiver me timbers!
Soon enough Astra’s wheels stopped spinning and the long-awaited holy grail arrived. Indeed, ChatGPT had recreated ‘VALORANT’… but the end product looks very, very bad, with some seriously funny errors.
First of all, the game mode is called ‘Browser Protocol.’ The entire map is essentially the backrooms. Corridors disappear and reappear like you’re in a horror game. Random crates, boxes, and stairs appear out of nowhere and float around. The entire thing might as well be Counterblox, with nary a single rounded shape in sight save for some poorly-polygonated trees. At least it has some Roblox-esque charm.
It looks like the player’s weapon, which is too compact to tell what it’s actually meant to resemble, is suffering the most. It glitches from side to side throughout valohabercisi’s video, rubberbanding worse than a 1/10 Jett with spiking ping and a VPN on another continent.
Enemy players look like bright orange Minecraft characters. Is this Hypixel or VALORANT? They glide slowly across the map like spectres instead of showing any signs of sentience… mom, come pick me up. I’m scared.
The minimap is comically simple, too. There are only three pieces of text on the entire thing: “A,” “B,” and of course “MID” in all caps. To be fair, though, mid control really is all you need to win at Ascent.
How can we forget the ending screen? It says ‘CITY SECURED’ in bold text. It’s like you’re cosplaying Batman and liberating Gotham instead of retaking during a postplant scenario. Perhaps the only saving grace is an ‘accuracy’ percentage: it would be cool to see built-in stats in VALORANT.
While valohabercisi’s results definitely gave netizens a good laugh, they were not unexpected. Fans congregated to offer their thoughts on ChatGPT’s efforts.
“The amount of bugs is accurate,” one user said. Another wrote, “We have VALORANT at home.” Many said the results decreased their confidence in the program’s ability to create and contribute to games; AI in coding is already a heavily controversial subject, and titles like Overwatch have been caught using it without disclosure in the past.
All that said, some users did say the result was “still interesting” and wondered how it could develop further in future years.
It looks like AI still has a ways to go in the FPS department. Stay tuned for more VALORANT esports and in-game news.
