An ‘Illegal’ Summit Cypher Trip is Causing VCT Americas Crashouts

The VALORANT community crashing out is nothing new, but this week’s reason is. The game’s newest controversy stems from a single Cypher trip on Summit. Here’s a recap of the situation.

VCT Americas Fans Are Crashing Out Over 100T Cryo’s Summit Cypher Trip

VALORANT‘s VCT Americas tourney has spawned plenty of iconic moments that grow beyond the big stage. Real OGs remember Zellsis’ businessman arc as a bundle salesman, and fans still make memes about what Demon1 could have accomplished in his prime. As Champions Shanghai 2026 approaches, the latest drama arrives in an unexpected form. The entire VCT Americas fanbase is crashing out over a single Cypher trip, calling it ‘illegal.’

The discourse started on August 28, 2026, after 100 Thieves Sentinel Cryocells used a tripwire that glitches through Summit’s A-site door during an official match. It’s important to note that Cryo isn’t the lineup’s creator. It went viral on TikTok the day Summit released, and other teams have used it in VCT-level play before.

The tripwire netted Cryo some serious in-game impact, and viewers became divided on whether Riot should allow the clearly bugged mechanic.

Once Summit’s destructible doors drop, players cannot pass through them, and they destroy most util under them. If you’re under the door when it goes down, you take environmental damage and die. However, for some reason, this Cypher trip has plot armor and can stretch through it.

Players place one side of the trip on the box behind the door while it’s open. It stretches backsite to the plant area entrance. Players hard clearing the angle will have a hard time detecting it or avoiding it. When the door closes, the tripwire stays up and glitches through it. This means Attackers cannot destroy one side of the tripwire.

Is the Summit A Door Cypher Trip Allowed?

The Summit A Door Cypher trip is currently allowed and still present in VALORANT Ranked. However, it’s still drawing plenty of controversy. ‘Unbreakable’ trips have existed before (for example, the one on C-main in Haven), but players can typically still destroy these by sending out utility like Yoru clones and Wingman to take the fall. The Summit A trip can’t be destroyed from one of its two sides, even if you use util to clear it.

Notably, Riot has removed or adjusted many of these unbreakable trips before, citing balance reasons, so some players are confused why the Summit one is still standing. In addition, it clearly has a bugged interaction with the game’s environment, whether or not it is ‘legal.’

Should Riot Games Issue a Punishment?

Esports fans have very mixed feelings about how authorities should handle Cryo’s Summit trip. Notably, this isn’t the first time it’s appeared in the VCT: NRG had experimented with it prior, receiving tournament approval. NRG skuba utilized the strategy during the Group Stage, in a matchup against Leviatan.

It’s clear the tripwire gives a significant advantage. However, opinion is split about whether responsibility should fall on the player or on Riot for allowing it in high-level play. If Cryo is just using a mechanic that already existed and has tournament approval, there’s really nothing to fault him for.

As Summit is still VALORANT’s newest map, it’s entirely possible that some teams, players, and coaches didn’t even know this tripwire existed. Even if they did, this is an ‘illegal’ trip, which utilizes in-game glitches to function whether or not it’s officially allowed. Once the Summit door breaks, the tripwire goes through a solid wall, which players can’t traverse. In addition, there’s no possible way for an Attacker to break that side of the tripwire once the door is closed. It might be one of the best Cypher tripwires in VALORANT right now.

Does it work really well? Yes! Does it function like the Cypher util the game intended? No! Should you use it in your games when this author is playing? Please don’t!

To be clear, the trip is completely allowed as far as fans are aware and remains in the game at the time of writing. It’s fine to use it in tournaments and ranked play unless organizers specifically say otherwise.

Some netizens are dreaming up rather… creative… punishments that they think Cryo should face. “Public execution,” @suge211 recommends (that’s a little much, no?). @RexemK says, “I was thinking more like banish him to the shadow realm but okay.”

@everestvxc says “1k fine any time he buys util on cypher for the rest of his career would be cool.” @Furtillow responds, “That’s light bro. This can only be a 100k fine with 2 years doing forced community service.” Another fan/foe suggests making Cryo only lock Cypher and play with a single trip for the rest of the VCT season. At this point, it just sounds like they’re designing a personal purgatory for him.

At the end of the day, it’s just a tripwire… it’s not that deep! Admittedly, though, the community is finding the discourse quite funny.
