A Black Widow rework will arrive in Marvel Rivals season 9, fixing up a character crucial to the game’s lore. Here’s everything we know about the changes, including when they will go live and how they affect Widow’s kit.
Duelist Hero Black Widow has a history as one of the game’s most controversial (and difficult) characters. As an extremely squishy sniper, she faces particular pressure from dive DPS, and has an extremely mechanics-heavy kit. To play her well, you need top-tier positioning knowledge and aim.
For the last year, Black Widow has sat at the bottom of Marvel Rivals’ hero win rate leaderboard. Currently, she wins only around 40% of games according to the stat-tracking site Rivalstracker.com. This is the lowest percentage of any character.
It also hasn’t helped Widow’s reputation that she is partially responsible for Marvel Rivals’ largest controversy. The Kingsman vs. Zazza drama went viral after a player refused to swap off of Black Widow in a major creator tournament. This ‘for the vibes’ decision caused young streamer Kingsman to lose out on a significant prize pool that could have changed his life. The community rallied around him after the incident, but it left a mark on Widow’s brand.
In Season 8.5, Marvel Rivals showed a bit more love to Natasha. She received a Black Widow summer swimsuit skin alongside her DPS peers. In the new Season 9 Premiere reveals, it looks like that care might go even further.

Marvel Rivals is entirely reworking Black Widow’s kit in Season 9, making her more aggressive. The changes completely adjust her Ultimate, grant her increased movement, and pack a higher damage punch. The update went live early in her in-game profile.
Here’s a quick summary of the Season 9 Black Widow changes:
For proper balance, an extremely squishy ‘glass cannon’ character usually needs serious damage to compensate. The new Widow changes will make it far easier to hit shots with her primary fire, offering more consistent damage. In addition, her Dive will allow her to play more aggressively, closing in on enemies to melee them after whittling down their health with poke. The changes will probably lower her skill floor, so Widow will be a more effective pick in lower ranks.
