Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage: Every Round 1 Matchup, and Why Day One Is Brutal

Sixteen teams, five rounds, and a first day where one bad game can sink a favourite. Karmine Corp drew the LPL first seed in their debut Worlds, and T1 got the game everybody will call easy right up until it is not.

The Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage begins on Friday October 23, and all eight Round 1 matches are best-of-one.

Riot held the draw on October 18, minutes after Karmine Corp beat MVK Esports 3-0 to take the last spot in the field. Sixteen teams are now locked in at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas. Eight of them will not make it out.

What is the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage?

Five rounds, no groups, no fixed opponents. You play until you have three wins or three losses.

  • Three wins and you are through to the Knockout Stage
  • Three losses and you go home
  • Eight teams advance, eight do not

After every round, Riot redraws the field by record. Teams at 1-0 play other teams at 1-0. Teams at 2-1 play other teams at 2-1. Nobody faces the same opponent twice, and teams from the same region cannot meet in Round 1.

The best-of-one rule everyone forgets

Here is the part that decides the first weekend.

Round 1 is best-of-one across all eight matches. From Round 2 onward, a match becomes a best-of-three only when it can send a team through or knock one out. Everything else stays a single game.

So a 2-0 team playing for qualification gets a Bo3. A 0-2 team playing to survive gets a Bo3. A 1-1 team in the middle of the pack plays one game and lives with it.

That means a favourite can lose Round 1 to a bad draft, a bad early gank or a single thrown teamfight, with no second game to correct it. They are then 0-1, facing another elimination-adjacent bracket for the rest of the week.

Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage Round 1 matchups

All eight games are on October 23. Riot has not published the running order yet.

  • Gen.G (LCK 1) vs Invictus Gaming (LPL 4)
  • Team Liquid (LCS 1) vs CTBC Flying Oyster (LCP 2)
  • Anyone’s Legend (LPL 1) vs Karmine Corp (LEC 3)
  • G2 Esports (LEC 1) vs Dplus KIA (LCK 4)
  • Hanwha Life Esports (LCK 2) vs Top Esports (LPL 3)
  • LØS (CBLOL 1) vs T1 (LCK 3)
  • Team Secret Whales (LCP 1) vs LYON (LCS 2)
  • Bilibili Gaming (LPL 2) vs Movistar KOI (LEC 2)

LØS is the Brazilian first seed. Most outlets write them as LOS because the slash through the O does not survive a copy and paste.

Karmine Corp drew the worst game on the board

Anyone’s Legend are the LPL first seed. Karmine Corp came out of the Play-Ins on October 18 and are at Worlds for the first time in the organisation’s history.

That is the single hardest Round 1 draw available, and it is not close. KC had no seeding protection coming out of the Play-Ins, which we flagged when Pick’Ems opened. The draw went exactly the way that warning described.

They are also Europe’s third team, alongside G2 and Movistar KOI. A Round 1 loss puts the region’s debutants into the 0-1 bracket immediately.

T1 got the game everybody will call easy

Three consecutive world titles, and T1 arrived here as the LCK third seed.

That seeding handed them LØS, the CBLOL first seed, in Round 1. On paper it is the softest opening game of the eight.

On paper is doing a lot of work in that sentence. This is one best-of-one against a Brazilian roster that almost nobody in the main regions has scouted properly, with a champion pool built in a league the LCK does not watch. Round 1 Bo1s against unfamiliar opposition are where tournament favourites have historically tripped, and T1 of all teams have been on both ends of it.

When does each round happen?

Riot has published the Swiss Stage in blocks rather than round by round, because the later rounds depend on how the records fall.

  • October 23-26: 10am PT, which is 7pm CEST
  • October 28-30: 1pm PT, which is 9pm CET
  • October 31: 10am PT, the final Swiss matches

Note the clock change between the two blocks. Europe leaves summer time on October 25, so the second block lands two hours later in local terms than the first one does.

Round 2 runs on October 24, after a fresh draw based on Day 1 results. Every team plays in it, half at 1-0 and half at 0-1.

What happens after the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage?

The quarterfinal draw happens immediately after the last Swiss match on October 31.

That draw is not random, and it rewards a clean run. Teams that finish 3-0 get drawn against teams that finished 3-2. The four teams in between are paired randomly. So going undefeated through the Swiss buys a softer quarterfinal, which is worth more than it sounds in a best-of-five format.

  • Quarterfinals: November 3-6, best-of-five, Allen
  • Semifinals: November 7-8, best-of-five, Allen
  • Final: November 14, best-of-five, Barclays Center, Brooklyn

Our finals schedule guide has the dates and start times for every knockout match.

One thing to do before Friday

Swiss Pick’Ems lock before the first match on October 23.

The quarterfinal draw rule above is the useful bit here. When you fill in the Knockout picks on October 31, you will already know which two teams bought themselves the easier path. That is a rare piece of free information in a prediction game, and the Knockout picks stay open until November 3.

We will cover every round of the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage in our League of Legends section, starting Friday.
