Marvel Rivals Season 9 is almost here. Let’s walk through a full Roadmap summary, including new Heroes like Jubilee and The Hood, the Battlepass, and events.

Marvel Rivals Season 9: What to Expect

Marvel Rivals Season 9, called “The Mystery of Thebes, stands out as one of the biggest updates the game has received since launch. Players will see Jubilee join the roster as a fresh Strategist, bringing firework powers and a kit that heals teammates and damages enemies at the same time. The Hood will follow later in the season, probably during the mid-season update. Black Widow receives a complete rework as well, turning her into an aggressive flanking Duelist with a new ultimate and updated abilities. The game‘s team-up system will also see major changes. Most of the roster will have balance tune-ups. Later in the season, fans can look forward to the Egyptian-themed Thebes map and an Avengers: Age of Ultron event.

So, to summarize:

  • 2 new Heroes (Jubilee and The Hood)
  • Black Widow Rework
  • Team-Ups Rework
  • 2 Events
  • New Battlepass
  • New Map
  • New Skins
  • Big Balance Changes

New Hero: Jubilee

“The Explosive Firecracker” Jubilee is Marvel Rivals’ new Season 9 Hero. She is a Strategist who will heal and support teammates while also dealing a bit of supplementary damage.

Jubilee is from the X-Men universe. She started off as a teenage runaway before becoming a key leader. Wolverine was her mentor for a while. She had a notable vampire arc in the comics. Jubilee’s design has sparked some conversation, since fans notice she looks very similar to Luna Snow.

In-game, Jubilee’s abilities are:

  • Primary: Firework blasts that heal allies and damage enemies.
  • Secondary: Releases a vampiric energy orb that damages enemies and heals allies. Players can charge the orb with damage, increasing AOE radius and power. Players can recall it with F.
  • Q (Ultimate): AOE fireworks knock up enemies. They also heal allies while dealing continual damage to enemies.
  • Shift: Jubilee’s movement speed, jump height, and attack speed increase.
  • E: Jubilee detonates one of her orbs. It Blinds and applies Vulnerability to enemies, while transferring health and speed to allies.
  • Passive: Jubilee can stack her hits on enemies, detonating for higher damage.
  • Team Up with The Hood: Jubilee can self-heal and crit with hitscan.
  • Team Up with Blade: Jubilee and Blade can deploy a Vampiric Field, giving allies within lifesteal.

New Hero: The Hood

Marvel Rivals has also confirmed supernatural villain The Hood. He will likely arrive sometime during Season 9, and fans got a glimpse of his character design during the Season 9 Premiere and trailer. The Hood will probably be a Vanguard hero, pushing the front lines and protecting teammates. More information will probably emerge as his release draws closer.

Black Widow Rework

Marvel Rivals is dropping a major Black Widow rework to fix the character, who has a win rate nearing just 40%.

Here’s a quick summary of the Season 9 Black Widow changes:

  • Fleet Foot: Black Widow now has a stronger dive ability, allowing her to close in on escaping opponents and swiftly reposition.
  • Red Room Rifle: Now has auto-fire without aiming in some scenarios.
  • Electro-Plasma Explosion (Ultimate): Black Widow’s ultimate now has 6 bullets. It also seems to have updated scope visuals.

Team-Up Reworks

Marvel Rivals Season 9 completely overhauls the team-up system. Since this is a fundamental part of the game and high-ELO play, it might be one of the most significant changes the title has seen since launch.

Instead of relying on a fixed anchor partner, every hero now gets two selectable team-up options to choose from. This occurs in the spawn room during the pre-match phase. NetEase also removed the old anchor buff requirement, so team-ups now function even without a specific partner hero on the team, and pairing with the right ally simply upgrades the ability into an enhanced version.

New team-up abilities are coming to the game, most notably involving new hero Jubilee. Fan favorites like Ammo Overload and Metallic Chaos are also returning. The rework gives teams much more freedom to experiment with different hero combinations, widening the high-rank hero pool and encouraging creative plays.

Events: Death of Apocalypse, Resurrection of the Horsemen, and Van Dyne Couture

Season 9’s “The Mystery of Thebes” theme brings Egyptian influence to the title. In addition to themed skins and a Battlepass, players can expect two new events: Death of Apocalypse and Resurrection of the Horsemen.

Both events incorporate Apocalypse, the X-Men villain at the center of Season 9’s narrative. They will include rewards, encouraging fans to stay active during the Season’s first few weeks. Jubilee and The Hood are both connected to Apocalypse’s lore, so these events will also help introduce them. NetEase will likely reveal additional specifics on challenges, rewards, and how these events tie into the universe as they draw closer.

The Van Dyne Couture Event will arrive a bit later. We know less about this, but it has some relation to fashion queen Emma Frost. It also includes several skin drops, so players can step up their fashion game.

New Battlepass

As always, Marvel Rivals Season 9 includes a new Battle Pass. This one is called “The Faith-Harvesting Engine“, and it draws inspiration from the Season’s Egyptian-inspired theme. The Pass reportedly has 12 pages. It gives players a mix of legendary and epic skins across a wide range of heroes, some of them free and others paid. Notably, the Season 9 Battlepass includes more skins than previous drops.

So far, we know these specific items will feature in the Pass:

Marvel Rivals Season 9 is also dropping a handful of new skins outside the Battle Pass. These skins hit the in-game store separately from the Faith Harvesting Engine, so players must pay premium currency to purchase them.

New hero Jubilee is getting a skin right away, referencing her time as a vampire. In addition, her mentor Wolverine grabs a fresh cosmetic. When the MCU film ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ arrives, the game will also drop related movie skins for Spider-Man and The Hulk.

Here’s a look at the new store skins launching with Season 9:

  • “Bloodlust,” Wolverine: a new skin releasing alongside the season launch

Path to Doomsday: Avengers Age of Ultron PVE Mode

Marvel Rivals is bringing back its popular Path to Doomsday mode with a new Avengers: Age of Ultron chapter. This launches on July 30. It is a PVE setup, so players work together to battle Ultron and his army of mechanical enemies. It’s designed for players looking for something different from the usual hero shooter action.

Marvel Rivals Season 9 Balance Changes

On July 6, the Marvel Rivals dev team announced some significant Hero balance changes. For a full list, check the official Patch Notes here, but here’s a quick summary.

A total of 21 heroes receive buffs, including Deadpool, Thor, Storm, Scarlet Witch, Phoenix, and Adam Warlock, while 18 others take nerfs, among them Angela, Captain America, Cyclops, Iron Man, Moon Knight, and Punisher. A new Regenerative Shield system, built specifically for high mobility characters, will make flanking more sustainable. These heroes see their base health reduced and replaced with a green shield visible on the health bar, which regenerates at 20% of max health per second after five seconds without taking damage. Ultimate Ability energy generation has also been adjusted across the board.
