For the weeks leading up to the Season 10 reveal, there’s been a lot of speculation about who Marvel Rivals‘ next hero will be. The Marvel Rivals team confirmed in their Season 10 dev vision that Gorr will have an aggressive, mobility-focused playstyle. His kit is suited to a mix of brawler and poke gameplay, encouraging close-range fights instead of distant damage.

Gorr’s Lore

Gorr the God Butcher first showed up in Marvel comics back in 2013. Fans might remember him from the God of Thunder series. Gorr grew up on a planet far, far away where the population worshipped the galaxy’s gods. After losing his entire family one by one, Gorr finally lost his faith. As the dev team puts it, “Gorr was once a deeply devout believer, only for him and his family to be abandoned by his gods in when in their most dire moments.” He swore to enact revenge on the dieties, and his community exiled him for the blasphemy.

On his journey, Gorr snatched up the All-Black Necrosword from Knull. It became his trademark weapon. It also coincidentally has supernatural abilities. Not the best thing to give to a guy on a lifelong vigilante quest for revenge.

Gorr and Thor’s lore (say that ten times fast) is one of his most important storylines. They battle throughout the comics, and Gorr brings a much needed reality check to Thor’s optimistic worldview. He believes the gods are selfish and indifferent, which Thor has to reckon with in himself.

What Role is Gorr?

Gorr is a Duelist in Marvel Rivals, which means his abilities are focused on doing damage and being a carry in fights. Gorr’s kit will help him hunt down squishy enemies, attack the opposing backline, and make game-changing plays during teamfights.

Gore is a pretty flexible Duelist with a high mobility kit. His abilities focus on getting him across the map, commanding an army of Black Berserker minions, and getting damage out of his Necrosword.

All-Black Necrosword Weapon

Gorr’s iconic Necrosword is his primary weapon. The team says it “can morph into various deadly forms depending on the battle situation.”

Black Berserker Minions

After attacking enemies, Gorr can absorb their power and use it to create minions called Black Berserkers. He can then control these lil’ henchmen and direct them to attack a target. Think something like Malzahar’s Voidlings in League.

Symbiote Assimilation

Gorr can reportedly use his symbiote powers to quickly travel long distances. He is a highly mobile hero. The dev team says this lets him strike “from unexpected angles with lethal precision.”

Gorr’s Ultimate: All-Black Annihilablade

When Gorr unleashed his Ultimate, the All-Black Necrosword becomes the Annihilablade. This upgraded form deals extra damage and can cut down “even the toughest enemies.” It also ‘commands all active Black Berserkers to throw a ruthless slaughter fest.’
