A free Roblox game called Project CS has taken the internet by storm this week and players say it’s hard to tell apart from Counter-Strike 2. Built by a single creator as a passion project, it has drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors after streamers and YouTubers started sharing clips. But as its popularity climbs, so does a bigger question: how long can it last?

What Is Project CS?

Project CS is a free game on Roblox, a platform where users build and share their own games. It is an unofficial fan recreation of CS2, made by a creator who goes by Acetul and is linked to a Roblox group called TAKEOFF INTERACTIVE.

According to its description, it is a personal passion project meant to test what the Roblox engine can do. It says it is non-commercial, has no monetization, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Valve, which makes CS2. The description also acknowledges Valve’s rights.

How Close Is It to the Real Game?

As mentioned earlier, Project CS is an exact copy of Counter Strike 2.

The following comparison video shows Project CS next to CS2 on the Mirage map with exact bombsites, matching layouts, lighting, and small details.

It also shows:

  • First-person views of knives, AK-47s, and AWP sniper rifles
  • Planting the bomb (C4) using a keypad
  • Player models with gas masks and tactical gear
  • On-screen displays for money, health, and ammo
  • Movement that closely matches CS2

The differences are small. Some sound effects are off, and the smoke and lighting are not quite as polished, which comes down to limits of the Roblox engine.

How It Went Viral

The game picked up attention around October 27, 2026. It started with low visit numbers and then climbed past several hundred thousand. Clips shared by YouTubers and streamers, including KreekCraft, helped, with some viewers calling it “literally the actual game.”

It is part of a larger trend of very faithful Roblox recreations of existing games, including Left 4 Dead 2-style games and even a PlayStation 4 menu running other titles.

Where Can You Play It?

Project CS runs through the regular Roblox app, so it is available on:

  • PC (Windows and Mac), the main platform, with full mouse and keyboard controls
  • Mobile (iOS and Android)
  • Xbox
  • PlayStation, where Roblox is supported

The page marks console support as experimental, with controller aim assist. It is not available on Nintendo Switch, since Roblox is not on that system. Voice chat and camera features are listed as unsupported, and some versions require joining the creator’s Roblox group first.

On PC, the controls will feel familiar to CS2 players: WASD to move, left click to shoot, R to reload, Space to jump, Left Ctrl to crouch, and Left Shift to walk. Netcode, performance, and anti-cheat differ from CS2, so the experience is not identical.

Because it uses copied Valve assets, Project CS is at high risk of a takedown request. Its availability can change quickly, and links may redirect or stop working. We will update this article if Valve, Roblox, or the creator makes an official statement.

Almost certainly not. The game reportedly uses models, textures, animations, weapons, sounds, and maps taken from CS2 and converted to work on Roblox. Valve owns the copyright to that material.

A “free” or “fan-made” label does not change this. Copyright law generally protects work even when no money is involved, and a disclaimer saying the project is unofficial does not give permission. The “fair use” exception is narrow and rarely covers a near-exact playable copy of a commercial game.

The project also appears to break Roblox’s rules against uploading material that infringes someone else’s intellectual property. Roblox has a licensing program for real brands, expanded in September 2026, but there is no sign Project CS used it.

What Is Valve Doing?

As of October 30, 2026, no public takedown notice, cease-and-desist letter, or statement from Valve about Project CS has been reported.

Valve has a track record here, though:

  • It reportedly sent a DMCA notice to the Roblox game BloxStrike in mid-2025, giving the developers about 24 hours to remove infringing content.
  • It has also shut down or blocked larger fan projects, such as Classic Offensive.

The Project CS creator appears to have made the game group-only after it went viral. That may reduce its visibility, but it does not remove the underlying copyright issue.

What Happened to Other CS-Style Roblox Games?

Project CS is not the first Counter-Strike-inspired Roblox game. How the others fared depends on how close they got:

  • Counter Blox: Launched in 2015 and still active, with more than 1.2 billion visits. It uses blocky, Roblox-style custom assets rather than copied ones, and it has never received a full Valve takedown.
  • BloxStrike: Currently the most popular modern CS-style game on Roblox, often drawing 20,000 to 27,000 players at once. After Valve’s DMCA notice, the developers made the maps less like the originals and changed some assets, sounds, and interface elements. The game survived.
  • Defuse Division, Kontra, and Defusal: Smaller bomb-defusal games with varying player counts. Many near-exact clones tend to disappear within weeks or months of going viral.

The pattern is that “inspired by” games with their own art tend to last, while games built from copied assets tend to get challenged.

Roblox vs. Real CS2 Among Pros

Roblox CS clones have drawn pro-level attention before and the results have been humbling.

In October 2025, FaZe Esports put its CS2 roster up against the top-ranked Counter Blox team. The pros walked in as favorites and walked out with two map losses because Counter Blox’s movement, hitboxes, and mechanics differ from CS2. The video passed 4 million views.

FaZe came back for revenge in September 2026, this time with a new lineup and a new opponent: the best team on BloxStrike. The rematch went the other way. FaZe won both maps on Roblox, then switched over to real CS2, where the match turned into a nail-biter that they barely won by a single round.
