What’s in Overwatch Season 4? Heroes of Busan Theme, Quick Summary

Overwatch released a full trailer for Season 4 on August 10, giving us new information about the update. It seems like this patch has a MEKA squad theme, so D.Va and D.Mon feature heavily in the storyline. In fact, the official title ‘Heroes of Busan’ references them. We’re getting lots of lore for their backstories.

Two of the most notable changes are a new Emerald rank and map reworks on Busan, Eichenwalde, and Paraiso. There’s also another Drive event and tons of skins. The game’s community is getting another Genji Mythic, called ‘Koi of Duality.’ Sojourn is another winner, since she gets a Mythic weapon.

So, to summarize:

  • New Tank Hero: D.Mon
  • Shooting Stars: My MEKA Mania Event
  • Map Reworks on Busan, Eichenwalde, and Paraiso
  • New Battlepass
  • Team Drives Event
  • OWCS Cheer Event
  • Rank Reset
  • New Emerald Rank
  • ‘Young Gods’ Shop Skins
  • ‘Fleece and Fangs’ Shop Skins
  • Genji Mythic Skin
  • Sojourn Mythic Weapon

Now, let’s dive into each of these changes and how they will affect the game.

D.Mon, a long-term character in Overwatch lore, is the game’s newest Hero. Her real name is Yuna Lee, and she is one of D.Va’s MEKA Squad teammates. The South Korean MEKA squad assembled former esports players and turned them into super-soldiers.

D.Mon is a Tank hero, with a Stalwart subclass. Her abilities focus on her Plasma Blade sword and fusion repeater turret. She has a Propulsion energy system. Her Ultimate lets her do AOE damage with a massive slash, which decays over time.

We have a lore guide for D.Mon here, and a full guide to all her abilities here!

Shooting Stars: My MEKA Mania Event

D.Mon is Overwatch’s most anticipated hero in a while, and the community’s enthusiasm has revived push for more MEKA squad members. Overwatch has teased the idea in the past, with several team members saying they’d like to bring D.Va’s MEKA squad teammates in as playable characters.

The MEKA squad plays a huge role in Season 4, and they’re getting a full event. It looks like this is called ‘My MEKA Mania.’

Who are Casino, King, and Overlord in Overwatch?

Part of the event lets players pick and vote for their favorite Mech pilot. Of course, D.Va and D.Mon are on the list, but so are plenty of other familiar faces. Casino, King, and Overlord all appear as other options. They are also MEKA squad members, who might have the potential to appear in-game someday. Could Overwatch be using this as a popularity survey to pick their next hero addition?

Completing the MEKA squad event will unlock new lore. We saw some conversation between Casino and D.Va in the trailer, chatting about their esports fans. Players can also get free rewards. It looks like loot boxes will be available.

Overwatch describes the event as follows:

Choose a pilot pass, complete challenges, earn rewards, and cast your vote to push your favorite squad member up the global popularity rankings. Every completed pass casts one vote and unlocks more of the story, bringing the personalities inside the mech into focus. Can’t choose just one? No problem. Finish a pass and jump straight into another. You can rally behind all five if you’ve got the time to be a true team player. As you complete passes, you’ll fill in the Star Tracker. Conquer them all and a surprise Prestige track will open for the most dedicated MEKA fans, with special rewards.”

When is the Overwatch My MEKA Mania Event?

The Shooting Stars: My MEKA Mania event will last from August 11 to August 31, 2026. It’s limited-time, so play while you can!

Map Reworks: Busan, Eichenwalde, and Paraiso

Fresh layout changes are coming to three fan favorite maps: Paraiso, Eichenwalde, and Busan. Eichenwalde gets new high ground near the attacker spawn, and an extra flank route for flying heroes like Pharah. The changes aim to fix its long standing defender advantage at the first choke point. The Busan switch-ups clean up the MEKA base section, tying the update directly to the Junkers and MEKA story thread. Paraiso also adds a Domina statue and a Lucio-themed club.

We made an in-depth guide on these updates, including every change you can expect on each map: check it out here.

New Battlepass

Like every new Season, Season 4 is rolling in with a brand-new Battlepass. However, this one works with a slightly different system. Players can pick a Battlepass track, which will determine which rewards they can get. You also get a few passes to swap rewards out for options from other tracks, customizing your loot.

In addition, an ‘Unvaulted Battlepass’ option is coming. This lets you access skins and rewards from previous battlepass launches.

Alongside the typical loot boxes and accessories, there are goth-inspired skins for a ton of heroes. The ‘Cyber’ skin line is the main focus.

Players who want a higher-tier experience can also buy the Ultimate Battlepass. Each Track option unlocks a different Premium Battlepass Legendary skin:

  • Cyber Chic Moira
  • Cyber Champ Brigitte
  • Cyber Cowboy Cassidy
  • Cyber Mechanic D.Va
  • Cyber Raptor Pharah

The Ultimate Battlepass also includes:

  • Divine Demon D.Mon
  • Metalcore Junker Queen
  • 2000 Overwatch Coins
  • 20 Battle Pass Tier Skips

Team Drives

A team-based Drive event is coming to Season 4, where players compete as a group to earn rewards. Overwatch’s Drives occur pretty frequently. They reward consistent players with XP. As you accumulate more Drive XP, you unlock additional tiers of free cosmetics. Players can get a nifty Drive nametag, which shows up over your profile with animations and bright colors.

The Season 4 Drive is unique because it encourages group play. Usually, Overwatch Drives focus on stacking up points solo.

When is the Season 4 Team Drive Event in Overwatch?

The Team Drives event will last from September 4 to September 6, 2026. It spans a weekend, so it’ll be easier to access during your free time.

Rank Reset

Overwatch Season 4 will include a hard rank reset. Players will have to queue ranked games again to find their new placement. Typically, you’ll be a few ranks lower than you were last Season. This rank decay helps prevent AFK players from clogging up the leaderboards and motivates the community to stay active.

New Rank: Emerald

How Good is Emerald Rank in Overwatch?

Overwatch is adding a new Emerald rank to the game. It’s located between Platinum and Diamond. Emerald will address a significant rank disparity between these levels, helping ensure players get queued with teammates who match their true skill level. This might have been inspired by League of Legends, which also has an Emerald level in its Ranked ladder.

This category has a shiny green badge, and it will probably still contain several sub-tiers. Usually, Overwatch ranks contain 5 levels, so Emerald will probably also span between Emerald 5 and Emerald 1. In addition, some dataminers have uncovered code that suggests a Kiriko skin could appear as an Emerald Rank Reward.

Young Gods Skins

A new ‘Young Gods’ skin line takes inspiration from fairies, folklore, and ancient myth. These Heroes have included skin options:

  • Emre
  • Doomfist
  • Freja
  • Kiriko

Overwatch Fleece and Fangs Skins

A Fleece and Fangs skin line, inspired by wolves and sheep, is also trotting into the Shop. You might not want to equip these skins to meet the Big Bad Wolf at grandmother’s house, but they’re pretty cool for taking the Point.

There are options for:

  • Soldier 76
  • Mei
  • Juno
  • Hanzo
  • Reaper
  • Vendetta
  • Mercy

Genji Mythic Skin ‘Koi of Duality’

Genji mains are eating good today with a new ‘Koi of Duality’ Mythic skin. The cosmetic features koi fish motifs and streaming flames. Genji wears a traditional Japanese oni mask. His blade transforms into a spiral, and there’s a scale pattern on its hilt.

Beloved DPS Sojourn is also getting some attention with a new Eternal Crystal Mythic weapon skin. This cosmetic has four upgradeable levels, and changes her rifle to have a white-and-gold design with crystal accents.
