Resident Evil: Survival Unit has just announced a collaboration with the Monster Hunter series. Here’s everything fans should know about the event, including its contents, release date, and context.

Resident Evil Survival Unit Announces Monster Hunter Collab

On July 1, 2026, Aniplex Inc. officially announced a collaboration event between Resident Evil Survival Unit and Monster Hunter. Survival Unit is a mobile game version of the classic Resident Evil franchise, which has been active for over three decades and spawned characters including Leon Kennedy and Ava Wong. It runs on iOS and Android.

Resident Evil already has a sci-fi vibe. Typically, players fight to unveil sinister biotech operations, battling zombies along the way. Monster Hunter will bring new creatures into the mix, adding Wyverns, giant lizards, and more. Though this specific title is an ARPG, the game’s developer, Capcom, is active in the esports sphere. It is most well-known for the Street Fighter franchise, which is big in the FGC.

In an accompanying press release, Aniplex wrote: “This collaboration introduces Monster Hunter–inspired gameplay elements into the post-apocalyptic world of Resident Evil Survival Unit, highlighting tactical mind games with iconic monsters and a wide variety of event content that deliver a new level of cooperative and competitive gameplay.”

The announcement also included a trailer, revealing a little bit more about the event’s plotline. In the description, developers state, “A new threat has emerged in a world of ruins. Amid collapsing cities and isolated survivors, build your own team and fight for survival against massive monsters. Monsters from another world shake the balance of survival. The hunt begins now.”

It’s important to note that this is a limited-time collab, so the additions won’t be permanent.

Players might recognize Rathalos, King of the Skies, who is a hunt boss. In addition, they can meet Yian Kut-Ku in mission battles and fight against Silver Rathalos, a Rare Species.

The rewards may have in-game implications, as the accompanying press release states they are both cosmetic and impact “strategic gameplay options.”

The Rise of Mobile Gaming and Esports

As esports become more mainstream, mobile gaming rises along with it. Esports options on phones and consoles, which are cheaper than PCs and require fewer technicalities to set up, help eliminate accessibility barriers for players. In addition, the genre requires a separate set of skills, forming a distinct niche from traditional counterparts.

Mobile esports has become so prominent that many long-standing PC titles are adding mobile options. Fortnite mobile notably returned to the App Store in May 2025, and VALORANT released a mobile version the same year. Several mobile esports, including Free Fire and Honor of Kings, are even appearing at the Esports World Cup.
