An Overwatch Netflix series is among Blizzcon 2026’s most surprising announcements. Here’s everything we know.

Blizzard Says an Animated Overwatch Netflix Series is Coming

As Blizzcon 2026 progresses, we’ve seen a ton of wild Overwatch reveals already. This one, however, goes beyond the game: Blizzard has just confirmed that they are in talks for an animated Overwatch Netflix series.

The announcement arrived after the team unvieled a Diablo x Netflix collaboration. This project will include a full animated series and is already well underway. However, the story continues: “Diablo, I promise, is just the beginning… to our Overwatch community… to our Warcraft community.

It’s important to note that plans could still change, and things might not be finalized yet. However, it seems pretty clear that Blizzard is at the very least in talks with Netflix about the project.

This outright confirmation is a huge stepping stone from the fan speculation that previously existed. That tidbit, though, remains all the Overwatch team has revealed about the project. We don’t know yet which characters could feature, or what storylines the Netflix show could focus on.

Of course, there are plenty of possibilities: characters like Widowmaker, Tracer, Kiriko, D.Va, Reaper, and Winston are fan-favorites for their story arcs. Who wouldn’t want to watch Juno’s journey to Earth, Ramattra’s revenge arc, or the ongoing fight with shadowy forces like Talon? Plus, the Omnics would probably take center stage, too, and we’d learn more about D.Va and D.Mon’s MEKA squad.

An Overwatch Netflix series would be the latest in an ongoing trend of game-inspired shows. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, inspired by Cyberpunk 2077, was one such title. League of LegendsArcane, created with collaboration from Fortiche, also revolutionized the gaming world by proving other media ventures could be profitable. Both projects have since intertwined even more with their in-game universes. Fortnite players can unlock a Lucy skin in Chapter 7 Season 4: Override. Arcane fans could also grab themed cosmetics in Fortnite, League of Legends, and VALORANT. These proved to be some of the games’ most successful skin launches.

What Else Did Overwatch Reveal at Blizzcon 2026?

Alongside the Netflix project, Overwatch dropped a ton of other big announcements at Blizzcon 2026. At the time of writing, we’re only on Day 1, so there’s probably still more to come. Most of the other Overwatch announcements relate to the base game.

10 More Heroes are Coming by the End of the Year

The dev team claimed that Doctrine isn’t the only hero stealth-releasing soon. Reportedly, 10 more characters are already in development. They will arrive within the year.

Sombra is famous as one of the most annoying DPS to deal with, but she’s also complex with a high skill floor and rewarding to learn. In the upcoming Season 5 patch on October 6, Blizzard will officially rework her into a Support hero. We have more info on this change in our main article.

Roadhog is Also Getting Reworked

A Roadhog rework should make him ‘help his team more’, with ally-centered ability incentives. This will demolish his iconic one-shot capabilities.
