LCS Homegrounds Mexico City: LYON brings the league to CDMX

The LCS is hitting the road, and the first stop is Mexico City. Riot has locked in the LCS Homegrounds Mexico City showdown for August 29 and 30, with LYON running the show. It is the first time a single team has ever hosted an LCS event, and four of the region’s best will settle things in front of a home crowd during Week 6 of the Summer Split. For fans across the Americas, this one has been a long time coming.

Who is playing at the LCS Homegrounds Mexico City showdown

LYON headline on home turf. Joining them are Cloud9, Team Liquid, and Shopify Rebellion, the three teams that finished top of the 2026 Spring Split. No warm-up acts here.

First up is LYON against Team Liquid. They have not run it back since the Spring Split Finals, so there is a score to settle before anyone even walks on stage. And LYON are no easy draw. They swept the preseason and took the 2026 Lock-In off Cloud9, 3-1.

The second match is messier, in a good way. Cloud9 bring their seven-man roster against Shopify Rebellion, who have swapped their support ahead of the Worlds push. For the Rebels, this is a chance to prove the change works before it actually counts.

A venue with history

The matches run at Arena Esports Stadium at CINEMEX Artz Pedregal. Older fans will know the name. This is where the Worlds 2022 play-in stage went down, the same floor where DRX kicked off the underdog run that ended with them holding the trophy. League has not been back since.

And it is small. Around 140 seats, a fraction of what the Riot Games Arena in LA holds. So do not sit on tickets. A room that tight gets loud in a way the bigger arenas never quite manage.

Why the LCS Homegrounds Mexico City event matters

Handing a full event to one team is new ground for the LCS, and LYON make sense as the team to trust with it. The org’s roots run deep in the Liga Latinoamerica, and this road show drags top-tier League back to Mexico for the first time since the country got folded into North America and the LLA shut down.

Riot are treating it as a trial run. They have said they will watch how fans respond before committing to more of these, which means Mexico City is basically auditioning for the rest of the region.
