G2 Qualifies to Worlds 2026
G2 Esports League of Legends has had some big highlights this year. After claiming the LEC 2026 Spring title, longtime midlaner Caps became the title’s third-ever Hall of Legends inductee. The team also reached the top 2 at First Stand and top 4 at MSI, where they infamously eliminated T1 and shook up the standings.
Though G2’s regular season form in Summer wasn’t as strong, they still found a way to lock in a spot at Worlds early. On September 5. G2 has already reached the Playoffs Upper Bracket Final, defeating Team Vitality 3:0. This makes them one of the Summer Split’s top 3 contenders, guaranteeing a Worlds appearance.
The team celebrated on its official X.com account, posting a picture captioned “WE ARE GOING TO WORLDS.” However, the next photo on G2’s timeline looked a little different.
The Bald Buff is Real: G2 League Shaves Their Heads for Worlds
Shortly after the accomplishment, G2 League of Legends shocked fans by posting a picture of the entire roster, with all players completely bald. Yes, you heard that right. The G2 lads have shaved their heads to obtain the mythical ‘bald buff.’

What is the ‘Bald Buff?’
The ‘bald buff’ is a well-known phenomenon in esports. This extremely scientific theory postulates that when a player goes bald, their in-game performance improves. The bald buff is contagious, and your team can have it even if just one bald person is on the roster. Perhaps this means G2’s buff is 5x as strong. You could even say the effect stacks.
We don’t know exactly how the bald buff works. It defies all human logic and explanation. Maybe when you have less hair, more of your blood flow goes to your brain’s neurons, making your reaction speed quicker? (This is a joke, doctors, don’t come for me.) Regardless, there are many historical examples. For example, take American Counter-Strike legend EliGe, who fans sometimes refer to as ‘the Bald Eagle.’

G2’s post went viral, recieving over 500,000 views in just a few hours. Fans and industry insiders had some eloquent reactions to the move.
“WE’RE SO BACK, WE JUST NEED BALD BOTLANE TO WIN WORLDS,” says G2 co-streamer Jankos.
Netizen @KitasanKrad said, “And we’re so bald… I mean back my bad.” Another user called the shaved heads a “team bonding exercise.”

What’s Next for G2?
There’s some fierce competition for G2 at Worlds 2026. Only one European team (Fnatic in 2011) has ever won the tournament, and the LCK and LPL remain dominant. T1, which is on a three-year winstreak, has qualified to the event with Faker at the helm. G2 will also meet Bilibili Gaming, who eliminated them from First Stand, there.
