As of July 23, 2026, Counter-Strike team FOKUS has introduced a major plot twist to BLAST Bounty Season 2. The EMEA team just eliminated Aurora Gaming from the Summer Closed Qualifier after a single-elimination, best-of-three matchup. FOKUS, being lower-ranked, notably was able to pick their opponent in this round. The decision to go straight to an analyst favorite team was unexpected, but clearly paid off in FOKUS’ favor.

On the first map selection, Cache, FOKUS had to grind out a close 13-11 win. jocab impressed here, picking up key frags. banjo was also popping off throughout the series. This early advantage showed cracks in Aurora’s composure. However, the next map, Nuke, was one of Aurora’s most comfortable battlegrounds. The team had plenty of recent play experience on it, cruising to a 13-7 win and forcing a decider.

Map 3, though, was where the floodgates opened, and where FOKUS took full control. The org demolished Aurora on Dust2 with a 13-4 defeat, looking particularly fearsome on CT-side, where they only dropped two rounds. woxic put up a good fight in all three games, but it was not enough. The victory eliminates Aurora Gaming from BLAST Bounty Summer before its main event even begins, marking a significant deviation from most predictions.

What Does This Mean for Counter-Strike Esports?

Aurora Gaming was an analyst favorite heading into BLAST Bounty Summer. The team carries a fierce reputation, winning PGL Masters Bucharest 2025, 2nd in ESL Pro League Season 23, and 3rd/4th in IEM Cologne 2026. It recently made a string of significant roster changes, aiming to improve its performance and finesse a competitive edge.

Previously, Aurora was well known for its consistent core roster. The team had purchased this lineup directly from Eternal Fire, a Turkish org renowned for blazing through the EMEA scene. XANTARES, MAJ3R, Wicadia, woxic, jottAAA, and Fabre made up the list. However, the 2026 transfers leave only XANTARES, Wicadia, and woxic remaining.
