FaZe frozen has reportedly spoken out about the ‘free frozen’ comments, saying he has faith in the organization’s performance. Here’s everything to know about the situation and what it means for Counter-Strike.

FaZe Clan: Esports Impact and Loss Streak

FaZe Clan is famous in the esports world, and it helped bring the industry into the mainstream. Combining competition with cohesive marketing, the organization transcended into a recognizable brand. Fans followed their favorite players as content creators, too, turning them into fully-fledged influencers.

The team is especially famous for its Counter-Strike efforts, kicking off all the way back in 2010. In its prime, it crushed prestigious events. In 2022, FaZe won the PGL Antwerp Major, adding another step to its star-studded history. FaZe is particularly sentimental to North American fans, as it was founded in the United States. The region infamously struggles in FPS titles, and FaZe is seen as a ‘home team’, though its roster is now mostly European.

That said, FaZe has been struggling in 2025 and 2026. The org has performed poorly in IEM Krakow and IEM Atlanta, placing near the bottom of the leaderboard, and is missing important S-Tier qualifications. They are experiencing a lengthy losing streak, and haven’t won a significant 1st-place title in over two years.

FaZe did place second in the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, but suffered defeat at Vitality’s hands. Vitality is known for its extreme discipline, but the loss was part of a pattern. The MongolZ knocked FaZe out at the earlier 2025 Austin Major: this team had an extremely young roster, far less experience, and no sports psychologist. The defeat, on FaZe’s ‘home turf’, was a massive blow to fans.

What is ‘Free Frozen’?

As FaZe tries to find its footing, it has made significant roster changes. The team released long-time player rain in 2025, also sending American EliGe to Team Liquid. broky also shifted to the bench in 2026.

At that point, the team had replaced four of its five roster slots: jcobbb, Twistzz, JBOEN, and enkay J joined. This isn’t anything out of the ordinary: teams like BC Game and Aurora have also made serious shuffles lately, but FaZe’s changes have seemingly done little to remedy the organization’s performance. David “frozen” Čerňanský is the last soldier standing from the original lineup.

frozen, who previously played for the German org MOUZ, has represented FaZe as a rifler for nearly three years. He joined in December 2023. Notably, despite the team’s struggles, frozen has held his own in FaZe’s competitions.

This started a movement in the Counter-Strike community: fans urged FaZe to ‘free frozen’ from his contract, so he could join another team.

frozen Responds to the Trend

On July 4, 2026, frozen offered a response to the community’s comments. He reportedly stated through FaZe Esports:

What’s the point of writing fking ‘free frozen’? Guys, I’m signed up to FaZe, I’m here to fking stay, there is nothing more I would want to achieve than to bring trophies to this organization.”

The message reiterated that frozen has hope for the organization’s future, saying, “I believe that we can achieve great things […] Maybe we are not in the best period now, but it doesn’t mean we are not gonna be in a good period in three or four months from now. There is no journey without ups and downs, you know.”

Community Reactions

The Counter-Strike community has mixed reactions to frozen’s statements. Some FaZe fans are grateful to see him standing by the organization, while others remain dissatisfied with the org’s performance. Netizens outside the main fanbase also question if FaZe can find its stride again without serious changes.

User @dustydps called the comment “hopium.” Another netizen, @EuGecko, wrote : “my goat will be rewarded for his loyalty.” @BeLikeColeman says, “I’ll always believe in Frozen, it’s the others surrounding that have been an issue. JBoen is showing great potential so let’s give it time.”

However, others poked fun at the statement and raised serious questions. @JohnMcKay542940 said it sounded like “the entire FaZe management stood behind the camera—guns drawn and pointed.” @MatthewTon5 told frozen to “save yourself and go to navi my goat i’m begging you.”

One commenter also pointed out that karrigan had made similar comments before departing FaZe for Team Falcons in April. The industry is watching to see how the situation progresses. Stay tuned for more Counter-Strike esports news.
