VCT Americas Kickoff Qualifiers: One NA Slot, and an Invite List That Will Name Who Got Cut
Twelve teams played VCT Americas in 2026. The 2027 Kickoff seats eight partners. Riot’s announcement says exactly where the difference goes, and the invite list for this bracket is going to be uncomfortable reading.

Registration for the VCT Americas Kickoff qualifiers opens on October 19, and North America comes out of the entire run with exactly one guaranteed slot.
Twelve teams played VCT Americas in 2026. The 2027 Kickoff in Sao Paulo seats eight partner teams. Those two numbers do not reconcile, and Riot’s announcement is unusually direct about where the difference ends up.
It ends up in this bracket.
What are the VCT Americas Kickoff qualifiers?
Qualifiers, Playoffs, then the LCQ (Image: Riot Games)
Three stages across November and December, produced with Red Bull, ending with one North American team on a plane to Brazil.
Qualifiers: November 5-8 and November 12-15, single elimination best-of-three, at least four teams out of each
Qualifier Playoffs: 16 teams, Swiss stage November 20-22, double-elimination bracket December 1-6
Last Chance Qualifier: December 17-18 in Sao Paulo
Whoever wins the Playoffs takes North America’s guaranteed seat at the 2027 VCT Americas Kickoff, which runs January 14 to February 7 in Sao Paulo. The runner-up gets one more swing at the LCQ.
These are the first events of the new structure Riot laid out this week. Our VCT 2027 global tour breakdown covers where the rest of the season goes after Sao Paulo.
Registration, and the deadline nobody is reading properly
Two windows, one per qualifier.
Qualifier 1: October 19 at 12:00pm PT until October 30 at 11:59pm PT
Qualifier 2: October 26 at 12:00pm PT until November 8 at 11:59pm PT
Read the second window again. It closes on November 8, and November 8 is the last day of Qualifier 1.
So the calendar leaves a door open. A team that goes out early in the first qualifier could sign up for the second one before the first has even finished. Riot has not said whether that is permitted, and the announcement is silent on entering both. If you lose on November 5, ask rather than assume. Three days of waiting could cost you a second entry.
Who can actually enter
Two requirements, and neither one is the hard part.
Players must be at least 17 years old
Players need a peak rank of Ascendant inside the previous six months
Ascendant is a real bar, but it is not a professional one. Plenty of people reading this clear it.
The third requirement is where it gets serious. Riot states that updated travel documentation and visas are mandatory, because the teams that go deep will fly. A roster that cannot sort passports inside six weeks has no business signing up. That line will thin the field far harder than the rank floor does.
How many slots does North America actually get?
Four non-partner slots: one each for NA, Brazil and LATAM, plus the LCQ winner (Image: Riot Games)
The Kickoff seats twelve teams. Eight of those are partners, invited directly. The other four have to be won, and the VCT Americas Kickoff qualifiers are where three of them get decided.
One guaranteed slot for North America
One for Brazil
One for LATAM
One for whoever survives the Americas LCQ
North America’s floor is therefore one team and its ceiling is two, and that second one depends on the NA runner-up beating Brazil and LATAM in Sao Paulo three days before Christmas.
The invite list is the part to watch
Sixteen teams play the Qualifier Playoffs. At least eight of them arrive from the two open qualifiers, which leaves up to eight invitations, and Riot has already said who those go to.
The announcement names three groups: VCT Americas teams from 2026 that were not extended as partner teams, top Challengers teams, and top Game Changers teams.
Read the first group again.
Twelve organisations played VCT Americas this year. Eight partner slots exist for 2027. At least four of those twelve are not coming back as partners, and Riot has not published the eight that are. When the invite list for these playoffs goes out, it will name the teams that missed, whether Riot frames it that way or not.
That is the thing to set an alert for. A franchised organisation dropping from a guaranteed league seat into a Swiss bracket against Challengers rosters would be the biggest story in North American VALORANT this winter. It is going to arrive quietly, as a list of invitees.
Game Changers teams are in the same bracket
The invite criteria include top Game Changers teams, and that is not a courtesy line. A Game Changers side that wins this bracket goes to Kickoff as North America’s representative on exactly the same terms as anyone else.
Nobody should expect that to happen. It is simply no longer structurally impossible, which is new.
Two tournaments, one bracket
The same bracket doubles as the Red Bull Home Ground NA Qualifier (Image: Riot Games)
The VCT Americas Kickoff qualifiers double as the Red Bull Home Ground North America Qualifiers. That quietly changes what second place is worth.
Both Playoffs finalists qualify for the Red Bull Home Ground World Final 2026. The group stage runs December 10 and 11 at WePlay Studios, and the final weekend lands December 12 and 13 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
So a team can lose the Playoffs final, miss Kickoff completely, and still walk out onto a stage at the Shrine. For a Challengers roster with no league contract, that is a career-changing December in either direction.
The runner-up’s December is brutal
Follow the calendar for the team that finishes second.
December 1-6: double-elimination bracket
December 10-13: Red Bull Home Ground in Los Angeles
December 17-18: Americas LCQ in Sao Paulo
Three events in eighteen days across two countries, one of which needs Brazilian entry sorted in advance. Now go back and reread the line about visas being mandatory. It stops sounding like boilerplate.
How does the Americas LCQ work?
Three teams, two days, one seat at Kickoff (Image: Riot Games)
Three teams, two days, one slot.
The second-place finishers from North America, Brazil and LATAM meet in Sao Paulo on December 17 for a round robin of best-of-threes. The best two advance. On December 18 those two play a best-of-five for the final seat at Kickoff.
A three-team round robin is a peculiar thing to watch. Every team plays two matches, a 1-1 record is the likeliest outcome for all three, and map difference will probably decide who flies home after a single day in Brazil.
Full schedule
Everything in one place, in order.
November 5-8: Qualifier 1
November 12-15: Qualifier 2
November 20-22: Qualifier Playoffs, Swiss stage
December 1-6: Qualifier Playoffs, double-elimination bracket
December 10-13: Red Bull Home Ground World Final, Los Angeles
December 17-18: Americas LCQ, Sao Paulo
January 14 to February 7: 2027 VCT Americas Kickoff, Sao Paulo
Is it worth entering?
If you have a roster and a passport, yes. The reason is the second prize rather than the first.
Winning the whole thing is a long shot for an unsigned team. Reaching the Playoffs final is a different proposition. The Shrine Auditorium does not care whether you also qualified for Kickoff, so Red Bull Home Ground is the realistic target, and it sits on the same road.
The honest counterweight is the invite list. Eight of the sixteen Playoffs seats go to teams that never touch an open qualifier. Some of those will be organisations that spent 2026 in the league. Beating one of them with a stack is not a plan. Getting a Challengers roster into that bracket and taking two Swiss wins is.
The VCT Americas Kickoff qualifiers open for registration on October 19, through Riot’s announcement page.
