Overwatch map reworks are coming, and they will bring serious meta shifts for Busan, Eichenwalde, and Paraiso. Here’s a recap of everything the team announced, and how it will affect gameplay.
Overwatch Season 4 is approaching fast, and the dev team has just revealed one of the game‘s major updates. In Season 4, there will be significant map reworks, changing up Paraiso, Eichenwalde, and Busan. Some of these changes are purely for aesthetic reasons, but others are intentional to create distinct in-game impact.
Blizzard announced the move at the 2026 OWCS Mid-Season Cup (MSC), one of the circuit’s top-level esports events. Game producer Ren Soanes popped up to explain the changes, detailing how they would switch up the meta and fix long-standing competitive issues.
The Overwatch Season 4 map reworks will go live on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Fans can expect to see them update immediately in all queues. Overwatch will also reveal its new hero, D.Mon, on Thursday, August 6.

The Paraiso rework includes a renovated poolside area. It also adds a Domina statue to the map’s first capture point. The statue is right next to the team fight zone, providing some much-needed cover in the very open area.
Players may notice that the pathway to the second capture point looks very different. This used to include a pesky long-range sniper angle, and plenty of looping corridors inside the buildings. This area is completely changed, with different elevations from new stairways. The Overwatch team designed it “to add new routes, improve flanks, and [add] high ground access.” It will also “help relieve pressure at the main choke.”
The art team has also gone wild on the third point, creating a festive frog-themed music venue. This ties into Lucio’s DJ lore, and features interactive animations with Lucio’s Ultimate. Wall surfing and mobility will probably be easier, and Lucio will slide back into the meta on this map.

Overwatch’s Season 4 Eichenwalde changes make it “more attacker-friendly.” The defender-sided map has always caused frustration with its first main choke point, where Echo, Bastion, and Reinhardt chuds assemble to absolutely obliterate any pushes.
A new high ground right outside spawn makes it harder for enemies to camp attackers, and easier to find attacking openings. There’s also an additional flank pathway with easier access for flying characters like Pharah.
The dev team continues this trend with a staircase into the castle on the 2nd point. This, once again, provides more Attacker high ground access. There’s also a jump pad from the bottom of the castle to Height, with a window for hitscan players to hold.
Finally, the castle’s third point has windows that give new Defender angles. Snipers and long-range DPS will become more viable with improved vision.

Control map Busan is seeing adjustments on all three of its locations. Downtown is more open, with debris outside the spawn point. The control point’s tower is completely redesigned, with a wider and more square base. It’ll provide more cover to dodge abilities. Another new jump pad will also take you to the top of the tower, so snipers can have more fun. Plus, a Jiggly Pig balloon is joining the iconic Busan cow.
Sanctuary is getting a visual update with bright green, summer-themed plants. There is also a recessed mineral spring area with a health pack next to the control point, adding a much-needed getaway from teamfights. Supports may enjoy hiding here while healing up their allies, and they won’t get bullied as much by dashing around on-site without anywhere to hide.
Meka Base is especially important in the new update, since it ties into Overwatch’s upcoming Tank hero D.Mon. South Korea is her home country, and she keeps her mech at this base. The location has a fresh experimental EMP setup. We don’t know D.Mon’s abilities yet, but players theorize that an EMP crowd control could be one of them, and it looks like Overwatch is supporting this theory. The area is much cleaner and visually clearer. It also looks like the team has finished working on D.Mon’s suit upgrades.
