Overwatch Officially Reveals D.Mon as New Hero

Overwatch Reveals New Hero D.Mon in Teaser Video

Overwatch just finished up its Esports World Cup OWCS run, and to celebrate, Blizzard unveiled a ton of new updates. At the EWC’s conclusion, fans got a sneak peek into several major map reworks for Busan, Eichenwalde, and Paraiso. Plus, Overwatch has just confirmed a long-standing fan theory: D.Va’s teammate D.Mon will be the game’s next playable character.

The EWC audience saw a mysterious image take over the screen while Game Producer Ren Soanes took the stage. It looked similar to existing Tank hero D.Va’s rabbit mech icon. However, it had a mischievous grin and devil horns. The MEKA logo, which represents D.Va’s defense group, also flashed across the arena.

Shortly after, Overwatch released a teaser animation on its official @PlayOverwatch YouTube channel. The short shows D.Mon piloting her mech, commanding her teammates to leap into action. D.Mon has long purple hair, and her uniform is a bright indigo bodysuit. Her mech, Beast, is red, with clawed feet and spiky horns on its helmet.

What is D.Mon’s Lore in Overwatch?

To understand D.Mon’s lore, we first have to get a recap on D.Va. D.Va, whose real name is Hana Song, started out as a professional gamer in South Korea. She was the country’s top StarCraft player (another Blizzard title) and a huge celebrity before she ever put on a mech suit. When the Omnics attacked Busan, the government needed skilled pilots who could handle fast reflexes and quick thinking. Hana’s gaming skills made her a perfect fit, so she joined a special defense force called MEKA with her former esports teammates. She traded her pro gaming career for a giant robot mech suit and became a real-life hero almost overnight.

It seems like Yuna Lee, one of D.Va’s former teammates, is following in her footsteps. Yuna’s code name is D.Mon, and her mech is similar to D.Va’s but with demon motifs instead of a bunny theme. She has a serious, disciplined personality, and is comfortable calling the shots. Basically, you’d want D.Mon as your IGL.

As Overwatch Season 4 continues, a new threat approaches: Reign of Talon follows a shadowy organization attempting to sow chaos. Fans started seeing D.Mon easter eggs pop up in the Busan map‘s MEKA lab, where it seemed like mechanics were upgrading her suit for a new battle.
