Who is Doctrine?
Doctrine is Overwatch’s newest hero, originally revealed at BlizzCon 2026. He is inspired by classic vampires, with a dapper and elegant look. Doctrine’s design shifts on the fly, starting off looking like a rotting corpse before transforming into a sleek nightwalker. He fights using a scepter that heals teammates, along with mechanical bat drones that swoop in to deal damage. His signature ability, Infuse, changes his next move. This can improve its power: for example, turning a simple dash into a burst of flight. Blizzard describes him as a “cool” rather than “creepy” vampire. Think the old Blade movies. He’s stylish enough to appeal to casual players, but also has a high mechanical skill ceiling.
Doctrine’s Lore
Doctrine’s lore ties directly into Doomfist and the ongoing Talon storyline. He’s already a key player in Overwatch’s Act 3 story arc. The team released an animated video trailer for him, giving us a little insight into his past.
Blizzard introduces Doctrine as a prisoner being held in a volcanic camp. In the reveal cinematic, Doomfist, Sombra, Widowmaker, and Reaper team up on a mission to break him free. Blizzard has confirmed that Doctrine will be central to where the story goes next, hinting that he might have deeper ties to Talon than we think.

Overwatch Season 5 launches on October 6, 2026. That’s when Doctrine officially joins the roster for everyone to play.

- Transfusion – Reduce Infuse’s cooldown from damage and healing dealt.
- Cost of Life – Sacrifice 25 maximum health. Eternal Scepter healing is increased by 20%.
