Locke League of Legends: Abilities, Release Date and the Vayne Connection

Riot Games has fully revealed Locke, the Ashen Exorcist. He is the next champion coming to League of Legends. Locke is an AP assassin, and he lands with Patch 26.13 on June 24, 2026. He is the 173rd champion in the game. He is also the only new champion Riot plans to release all year. So this is the one shot at a fresh face for 2026.

Do you main mid? Do you like an assassin who stalks a squishy and deletes it with the right setup? Locke is your guy. Just do not walk in expecting to one-shot on instinct. That is not how he works.

Who is Locke?

Corvin Locke is a nail-slinging demon hunter out of Demacia. His parents were Demacian occultists. He grew up on a grim idea: demons are not the cause of human darkness, but the result of it. So now he tears through souls to drag that darkness into the light, one exorcism at a time. His own line says the quiet part loud. Demons get a bad rap, but the real monsters are people.

The look leans hard into a demonic, anime-flavoured style. The nods to Dante and Vergil are obvious. Riot pitched him as part occult executioner, part anime heartthrob. You can see exactly who that is for: the players who found League through Arcane.

Locke’s abilities

Champion designer Blake “Squad5” Smith and product lead Edward Zhao walked through the kit on a developer roundtable. The champion runs on one demanding idea. He has to set up his burst before he can land it. That rewards patience and timing over point-and-click kills. Here is the full kit:

• Passive (Silver Stake): His attacks pin enemy souls. They deal bonus on-hit magic damage that scales with the target’s missing health.
• Q (Ritual Nails): He readies a set of Soul Nails that mark and slow. Attacking spends them for magic damage per stack. Any nails he leaves unspent refund some cooldown and mana.
• W (Soul Ignition): He breaks his own seals for a burst of decaying move speed. While it is active he bleeds health as true damage. He also heals back part of that damage. The heal grows with his missing health and time elapsed. He can recast to end it early.
• E (Ashen Pursuit): A blink that deals magic damage around him on landing.
• R (Purgatory): He kicks out a binding artifact that opens on arrival. It fires chained Soul Nails that damage and slow. The artifact drags marked champions below a health threshold inside and executes them. Each execute resets the binding timer on everyone else it traps.

That kit reads like a classic burst assassin. He gets a self-damage gimmick on W, a blink to reposition, and an ultimate that earns its keep in teamfights. The execute resets are the scary part. We said as much in our first look at Locke. Kill-reset ultimates tend to get nasty once players nail the timings.

The Vayne connection

Locke’s story plugs straight into Vayne’s. The cinematic, Back from the Brink, bridges him into her arc through a possessed Vayne. It teases a demonic possession event for the season. Players first glimpsed him in the opening act of the Pandemonium season, in Vayne’s comic. This reveal is the full version of a thread Riot has been pulling for a while.

Release date and what to expect

Locke hits the Public Beta Environment first. Then he goes live with Patch 26.13 on June 24, 2026, at 11 AM PDT. He launches with a High Noon skin and goes buyable the moment the patch drops. Want the meta he is walking into? Our Patch 26.12 notes breakdown has it.

A burst assassin with blinks and kill resets usually eats a few quick nerfs. Players will find the broken combos fast. I would not be shocked to see tuning within a patch or two, with the big competitive events coming up. Fun to pick up early. Just do not get attached to launch-day numbers.
