Fortnite’s yearly holiday event, Winterfest, is right around the corner. Epic Games hasn’t said a word yet, but dataminers have already spotted signs that preparations are underway. Here’s what we know so far about the Fortnite 2026 Winterfest event, including its start date, free presents and possible skin leaks.
According to Fortnite leaker HyperX, the Winterfest 2026 event is expected to start on Thursday, December 17, 2026. The leaks also suggest that the event is in playtesting, which means Epic is trying out the update files internally before release.
The timing ties into the game’s season schedule. Chapter 8 Season 1 is expected to begin on December 5, 2026, after the current Treasure Hunters mini-season, which is part of Chapter 7, ends around December 4 or 5. Winterfest would then arrive with the first major content update of the new chapter.
Past Winterfests have lasted about two to three weeks, often running into early January. If that holds, the 2026 event should end around the first week of January 2027. That end date is a guess based on past years and has not been confirmed.
No specific 2026 rewards have leaked yet, so nothing below is confirmed for this year. Based on recent Winterfests, this is how the free present system will most likely work.
Recent events offered 14 free rewards, with one present opened per day. Presents usually do not pile up, so if you skip a day, you generally lose that day’s present.
Past Winterfests have given away cosmetics in these categories:
There are no skin leaks for Winterfest 2026 at this point. The only thing leakers have confirmed is that playtesting has started. No free skins, shop outfits or collaborations have been revealed.
For the Item Shop, expect a heavy focus on Christmas and winter-themed cosmetics, as in earlier years. Past events featured items tied to Sabrina Carpenter, Harry Potter, Snoop Dogg and Hatsune Miku. Some players are hoping for a Grinch collaboration, which comes up often in community discussion, but nothing has been confirmed.
Recent Winterfests have covered only part of the island in snow rather than the whole map, and players often call it “half snow.” New or limited-time locations and festive decorations are possible, but no details have been confirmed for 2026.
When it comes to the gameplay features, past events added holiday-themed items to the loot pool, such as presents, snowball launchers and blizzard grenades. Other possible features include limited-time game modes, XP challenges and, sometimes, a boss or special event.
