Team Falcons are into the PGL Astana 2026 playoffs in karrigan’s debut tournament with the squad, and Team Spirit knocked FURIA out. Bracket update inside.

IEM Atlanta has the headlines this week, but PGL Astana 2026 has been delivering the more interesting tournament. The Swiss stage wrapped over the last few days, and two of the biggest stories of the CS2 spring landed back to back.
Team Falcons advanced to the playoffs after beating The MongolZ, which is a sentence I did not expect to write a month ago. Team Spirit knocked FURIA out of the Barys Arena race. And underneath both of those results, PARIVISION crashed out early and threw the upper end of the EPT rankings into chaos.
Falcons looked dead in the water through most of the spring. The roster spent months drifting after their international run never translated into a trophy, and the org finally pulled the trigger on a serious shake-up. Finn “karrigan” Andersen joined as the new in-game leader, and Astana is the first proper LAN with him calling shots.
The early returns are encouraging. m0NESY and kyousuke combined to drag Falcons back from a slow start against The MongolZ in a series HLTV flagged as one of the matches of the tournament. There is a long way to go before anyone is calling this lineup a contender at the IEM Cologne Major in June, but they finished third in Rio and they are now into another playoff bracket. That trajectory matters.
The Falcons story carries a sentimental thread too. Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo confirmed in April that he is retiring from CS2 esports at the end of 2026, and Astana is one of the last marker tournaments on his calendar before the Major run. The legend is still going, even if the role has changed.
Team Spirit’s win over FURIA was the cleanest performance of the Swiss stage. Spirit have not won a tournament yet in 2026, and they have looked nothing like the side that took PGL Astana 2025. Astana is the closest they have come to dangerous territory all year, and the symbolism is hard to miss. They are defending the title at the same event they lifted it twelve months ago.
For FURIA, the loss hit hard for one reason. Danil “molodoy” Golubenko is from Kazakhstan. He grew up here. PGL Astana 2026 was supposed to be the homecoming tournament of his career so far, and instead he is going home early. The Barys Arena crowd will miss him in the playoffs.
PARIVISION’s early exit is the more surprising bracket movement. They reached the grand final of PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026 against Vitality less than two months ago, and they had been one of the more consistent Tier-1 rosters in 2026. Astana ended that run fast. Whatever was clicking in the spring is no longer clicking, and they have less than a month to fix it before the Major.
The playoffs run from 15 May to 17 May at the Barys Arena. Eight teams qualified out of the Swiss stage, and the bracket runs single-elimination from quarterfinals onwards. You can pull the full bracket and live results from the PGL Astana 2026 page on Liquipedia for every match.
Astana lands directly on top of IEM Atlanta in the calendar, which has split top-end attendance between the two events. Vitality and NAVI went to Georgia. Astana grabbed Falcons, Spirit, MOUZ with the new lineup, FURIA, The MongolZ, and PARIVISION. The Major race separates teams across both tournaments. We tracked the full CS2 2026 schedule so you can see where every Tier-1 squad is showing up next.
MOUZ deserve a quick mention. This is the first event for Adrian “xelex” Vincze after his promotion from MOUZ NXT, and Justinas “jL” Lekavičius joined them from NAVI. That was one of the bigger winter moves, and Astana is the first real proof point. We laid out the full move and what it means for the roster in our CS2 winter rostermania recap.

The playoff weekend in Astana is going to tell us a lot. If Falcons push deep, karrigan’s project is real. If Spirit win the trophy, donk and Zweih are back where they need to be. And if FalleN gets one more big run before retirement, even better.
