paiN Gaming opened IEM Atlanta 2026 by smashing FaZe 2-0 while Vitality marched on with a clean win over BC.Game. Here is how day one shook out.

FaZe Clan came into IEM Atlanta 2026 looking for a reset. They left day one staring at the lower bracket with very little to be proud of.
paiN Gaming opened Group A by handing FaZe a 2-0 loss that almost nobody outside Brazil saw coming. snow ran the series with a 1.47 rating, and the rest of the lineup looked sharp. FaZe did not. There is no nice way to spin a clean 2-0 against a side that arrived in Georgia without much going for them.
That was the headline upset, but the rest of day one ran the way the favourites wanted.
Team Vitality opened with a 2-0 over BC.Game on Mirage and Dust2. The second map stayed alive longer than expected, with BC.Game trading rounds well into the late stretch before Vitality closed it out and walked into the upper bracket semifinals.
The story under that story was Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev. He plays for BC.Game now, and he was the best player on the server. He took player of the match with 81.5% of the vote, finished with a 1.07 MK rating and an 86.4 ADR across two maps, and his team still lost. That is the BC.Game project in one line.
Vitality have now won five LANs in a row. IEM Rio 2026, BLAST Rivals Spring 2026 in Fort Worth, and a stack of finals where NAVI keep showing up only to drop every single map. A trophy in Atlanta would make it six straight ahead of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 in June. Nothing in CS2 history matches that kind of run.
NAVI handled Passion UA 2-0 the way you expect from the second-best team in attendance. No theatrics, no close maps. The ESL Pro League Season 23 champions cleaned up against tier-2 opposition.
FUT Esports opened with a 2-0 over NRG, which is a result the North American crowd will not enjoy. NRG had a home crowd and visa-free access to their own region, and they still got rolled in two maps.
B8 vs BetBoom was the closest series of the day. B8 lost 1-2 and dropped into the lower bracket, where IEM Atlanta does not hand out second chances. Their coach, maddened, never made it to Atlanta after his US visa did not come through in time. B8 CEO and ex-pro arch is standing in behind the players instead.
Day two is brutal. BC.Game vs B8 and FaZe vs NRG headline the lower bracket quarterfinals, with the loser of each match going home. The upper bracket semifinals follow, and Vitality are already locked in.
Playoffs run from 15 May, and the grand final lands on 17 May. Total prize pool sits at $1 million, with the winning organisation taking $170,000 and the players splitting another $125,000. You can follow the live bracket through the IEM Atlanta 2026 tournament page on Liquipedia for every series in detail.
The question is whether anyone can stop Vitality. NAVI have lost their last three meetings against them, including two grand finals. FaZe got rolled by paiN. Astralis and Liquid have looked off all year. Right now it is Vitality and the field, and the field is losing.
We covered Vitality’s IEM Rio 2026 win and the back-to-back ESL Grand Slam moment in full. We also broke down why FaZe parted ways with karrigan earlier this year and what that move has meant for both rosters since.
For the bigger picture, our CS2 tournament calendar 2026 tracks every Tier-1 stop on the road to Cologne, and the CS2 news hub updates as results land.
Atlanta runs until Sunday. paiN delivered the first shock of the tournament. Vitality have not shown anyone a weakness yet. We will know which of those facts matters more by 17 May.
