Aurora Gaming has just announced the latest in its Counter-Strike roster shift saga: ash will join the team as a coach. Here’s everything we know about the move, how fans are reacting, and what it means for the team.
European Counter-Strike org Aurora Gaming has made some significant roster changes in the past week. On July 3, 2026, they announced the latest: Ashley “ashhh” Battye will join Aurora CS2 as a coach.

The announcement included a caption, emphasizing ash’s successful track record. Aurora noted the “five Majors [ash has participated in] and dozens of young talents blossoming under his mentorship.” The team stated, “Welcome aboard!”
Hailing from the United Kingdom, ash played for teams including Team Xenex, London Esports, and Vex Gaming. He is best known for his time on GamerLegion, which he represented for over 5 years. From 2020 to 2026, ash was instrumental in GL’s performance and notably led them to a 2nd-place prize at the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023.
Shortly after the announcement, ash took to X.com to detail his excitement for the role. He wrote that he is “very happy to have joined Aurora as the Head Coach.” ash also noted that he is “following in the footsteps of the fantastic [Fabre],” crediting his predecessor’s work.
I am very happy to have joined @AuroraCS2_GG as the Head Coach, following in the footsteps of the fantastic @Fabr1O It’s been a long period away for me and I’m excited to be back😍

Aurora Gaming is known as a Turkish Counter-Strike team. Aside from being headquartered in Serbia and Turkey, the org has consistently invested in Turkish players. In 2025, the team acquired the entire Eternal Fire roster, known as the ‘Turkish six.’ Now, only three Turkish players remain.
There are some mixed reactions to ash’s signing, especially because it arrives shortly after Aurora released several additional Turkish players. There is some criticism from fans who feel the move has taken a different direction from the organization’s Turkish identity. In addition, ash is a content creator with a YouTube channel documenting his coaching. One fan questioned, “did u acc bring in a content creator for a Turkish core instead of a proper Turkish coach?”
say goodbye to ur fans, aurora. good luck 👋🏻

Yet another reply emphasized, “say goodbye to ur fans, Aurora. good luck.”
I’m sorry for the Turkish fans that are losing their all Turkish team. It makes me very sad. But if you did have to have an international coach Ash is the best on the market. I hope you give him a chance.

That said, ash has significant experience in the same European region and is known for his consistent results. The backlash primarily stems from Aurora’s direction as an organization, not his professional credentials. Another netizen, humorously named ‘Grandma’, offered another perspective: “I’m sorry for the Turkish fans that are losing [all their] Turkish teams […] But if you did have to have an international coach Ash is the best on the market. I hope you give him a chance.“

Aurora Gaming has massively shifted its Counter-Strike roster this week. First, they benched Fabre. Next, the org revealed core player MAJ3R’s retirement. An announcement that soulfly has been benched capped everything off.
Aurora Gaming is likely trying to get in top form for several upcoming tournaments. After BLAST Bounty 2026, the Esports World Cup 2026 looms on the horizon. The event has a massive 2 million USD prize pool, with 600,000 set aside for the winning organization. Aurora Gaming is in the competition, and when that amount of money is on the line, teams have to be ready to perform at their best.
