GTA 6 Release Date Is 11 Weeks Out and Rockstar Has Finally Shown Us the Game

The GTA 6 release date has now held for close to a year. After two delays, nobody expected that. Rockstar is sticking to 19 November 2026, pre-orders opened on 25 June, and the Extended Look landed on 27 August. It was the first sanctioned footage since the second trailer in May 2025.

Thirteen years since GTA 5. Eleven weeks to go. Here is where things stand.

What the Extended Look showed

Rockstar premiered Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix. YouTube and the official site got it about six hours later. Handing a video game reveal to a streaming service first is a strange choice. It also tells you how big Rockstar thinks this launch is.

The footage follows Jason and Lucia through a job for nightclub owner Boobie Ike, starting at a trap house. The part players will care about most is the switching. You can run either character or move between them mid-mission. The transition looked seamless rather than a loading screen wearing a disguise.

A Rockstar interview with Dazed filled in more. NPCs react to what you do and remember it afterwards, so the world holds a grudge. What your character eats changes how they look. That sounds like a novelty until you remember the hunting economy in Red Dead 2.

Sixty-three screenshots came out alongside the video, plus details on activities and customisation. Vice City is back, sitting inside the wider state of Leonida.

The leaks nobody asked for

Nine days before the reveal, two minute-long gameplay clips and a screenshot of the map appeared online. Rockstar fired off DMCA takedowns and went after whoever was spreading them.

The group behind it called itself CyberLeek. It published something close to a manifesto, complaining that GTA 6 ships without a physical disc. That part is true. The boxed version is a code in a box, which is a fair thing to be annoyed about if you collect games. Leaking somebody else’s work as a protest is still a strange way to make the argument.

This is the second time Rockstar has dealt with it. The 2022 breach put more than 90 videos of unfinished work online, and the industry called it a nightmare for the studio. This one stayed smaller, and the official reveal a week later mostly buried it.

The online question nobody is answering

Rockstar has said close to nothing about the multiplayer side. That is the part with the longest tail. GTA Online kept GTA 5 profitable for a decade, largely on Shark Cards and updates like the Diamond Casino. In-game chips became one of the most lucrative things the studio ever built.

That model is under more pressure than it was in 2019. Around 50 countries already restrict the Diamond Casino’s gambling features, including Portugal and South Korea. Rockstar quietly added Australia to that list in July, after the country’s own crackdown on online gambling. Players there can still walk into the casino. They just cannot touch blackjack, roulette, slots or the Lucky Wheel.

The reason regulators keep circling is the currency. You buy chips with GTA dollars, and you can buy GTA dollars with real money. To a 14 year old, the loop looks close enough to the real thing. Actual operators answer to a different system, where licensing, payout auditing and safer gambling tools decide how UK online casinos get rated. A game economy answers to platform holders and classification boards instead. Rockstar has to decide whether it wants that fight again on a bigger stage. So far it has not said a word.

Pre-orders, price and the PC problem

Standard edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate costs $99.99. Reporting suggests the more expensive one is outselling it. Buy before 20 November and you get the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital orders add a month of GTA+, and preloading opens on 12 November.

So pre-ordering does buy you something, which is more than you can say for most games. Whether a pack of in-game items justifies parking your money for four months is another question. This one is not going to sell out.

PC players get nothing yet. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, a window or system requirements. GTA 5 took about 18 months to make the jump, so most people expect 2027 or 2028. Nobody at Rockstar has said so.
